Liberal Is Better Than Conservative
Are you liberal or conservative? Explain why one is correct, and the other wrong.

Liberal=personal rights

conservative=economic freedom

my own personal rights are more important to me than the economy, so yes, i would choose liberal over conservative. Fortunately i don't have to settle for liberal though, thanks to the libertarian party.

Ideally the liberal ideal of spotting problems and trying to resolve them would create a dynamic adversarial debate with the conservative ideal of fiscal responsibility and preservation of tradition. The result would be an effective government that was responsive to change yet protective of existing values. However what we have instead are the democrats and the republicans who have consistently failed to live up to their stated ideals for half a century.
My personal inclination and talents lean more towards problem solving so I lean towards Liberalism but I don’t dispute the value of conservatism or feel like actual, old school liberal ideals (or conservative ideals for that matter) have been represented in the government in my lifetime.

Liberal, because I believe as long as it doesn't detrimentally affect others around you, you ought to be allowed to do it. I have no problem with males ( or females ) marrying each other, for instance. I think it terribly bad form to interfere in such things.

I believe in equality of opportunity absolutely, as well as equality of some human rights (such as health, education). This requires taxation. I also believe in the Millsian view of human rights, hence the liberal.

Simple, I can do what I want to myself but not to others, I cannot infringe other people's rights. Therefore I am all for allowing self-expression be that be smoking, homosexuality, masocism but do not believe it is acceptable to continue a substantial rich/poor divide or ban abortion, this infringes other people's right to choice (I'm not here to argue about the definition of people).

 Quincel- You apparently are for allowing everybody freedom to do anything except fail. They can make whatever decision they want but apparently do not need to reap any negative financial repercussions. You state that you "cannot infringe on other people's rights" but what about someone's right to keep their own earning??? "equality of human rights is a non-sensical statement. BY DEFINITION, rights are equal. No, you want equality of outcome. You believe in the "Millsian view of human rights". My gosh you sound smart! Why not figure this one out- When has liberal policy ever raised the standard of living of the masses?

I am liberal. Liberals want change and reform in society. Conservatives don't. I believe the only thing that can save the United States from this failing way of life IS change. Without change, we will continue to depend on foreign oil. Without change, the economy will continue to deteriorate into dust. Without change, citizens will continue to slip into poverty. Without change, we will continue to live in a world of lies and failure. Change IS what we need to rebuild our country from the ruins that it is.

The United States is in a tunnel of darkness that is lies and failure. But there is light at the end of it. That light is a world where all can have liberty and freedom. Change is what pushes us towards that light.

 THE ABOVE IS TYPICAL LIBERAL CR@P. Just a bunch of nice sounding words which amount to nothing. All that use of the word "change" but no specifics. "Pushing us toward that light"? What the heck does that mean? Liberals have been proclaiming "more and more people slipping into poverty" for years. If that is the case, shouldn't we all be poor by now? Likewise, they have been promising for years that they want to help people. Shouldn't they not need your help any longer by now?

Liberals want to model America after that successful socialist state of.......Hello? Anybody there? Liberals can point to no successes! We have been fighting Democrat Lyndon Johnson's "war on poverty" for 40 years, Spent trillions, and Bluestster still feels it necessary to warn us about people slipping into poverty. At least he cares, right? Where has any governmental program eliminated poverty and created wealth?

P.S. Typical lame trick of being "for" your own argument trying to skew the results in your favor.

Liberals believe only the government can help the people and conservatives believe people are their own greatest assets. That is the difference in a nutshell.

America is going to change no matter which candidate gets in office. The question is, which change do you want? Do you want bigger government, more taxes, and less freedom? If so, vote for NObama. Do you want less government regulation, less taxation, and more freedom? If so, vote for McCain. As for me, I will vote for freedom.

 That’s the platform the conservatives have been running on for 50 years and yet they have consistently failed to live up to any of these ideals. I guess you must like being sold a pig in a poke, because you keep buying.

Liberals and Conservatives are blithering idiots. What's really sad is there are few of these in politics. Politicians use extremes to fire up the electorate and to safeguard their agendas. While doing this, citizenry take these two sides seriously and argue with their friends and family to the point of causing damage to personal relationships.

This is happening while James Carville (lead strategist for Bill Clinton) is married to Mary Matalin assistant to President George W. Bush and counselor to Vice President Dick Cheney until 2003.

WAKE UP PEOPLE!

Conservative governments mean to be smaller governments than liberals and mean to run a tighter lower taxation economy.
Liberals make more rules and need bigger governments. Rise higher taxes and seem less able to keep a tight grip on the economy.

Liberals seem more likely to avoid conflict than Conservatives to go to war.

Liberals seem more likely to erode freedoms.

I'm not sure i would use the word "correct". Some believe differently than others. I personally believe in a small government and that people should be allowed to achieve their greatest potential in their own individuality. This is a conservative way of thinking. A liberal way of thinking is that we need to make everyone equal and that we can solve all the problems of the world if we work together and submit to a larger government. Not my cup of tea.

 People can not achieve their greatest potential unless something is done about the current state of the U.S. How do you do something about it? Change it. There's that word again.

I (as a liberal), don't believe that we need to make everyone equal, I believe that everyone has to have equal opportunities. Unfortunately, not all citizens have the same opportunity as the next.

 You want specifics? Ok. Here's an example:

How can we end our dependence of foreign oil? We could begin drilling in American territory. Or we could resort to alternate fuel sources. What do you call this transition from dependency to independency? It's called "change." Heard of the word before bugman? Would this change be a good one? I think so.

Also, you ask why we are not all poor yet. You truly believe people aren't slipping into poverty? Then why is there an increasing amount of foreclosers? Why are there more people declaring bankrupcy? And why do most politicians believe that citizens are slipping into poverty? If you can't realize that there ARE people slipping into poverty, then clearly you are self-centered and unobservant.

I'm not trying to warn people that citizens are slipping into poverty (apparently you interpret this debate in such a distorted way)! Everyone knows that (maybe not you). I'm trying to say that change can bring more people OUT OF poverty. You are arguing a topic that has nothing to do with this debate. I suggest you read the title again. Maybe a third time.
