Letters Are Better Than Numbers
Letters are better than numbers because they are more easily understood by more people and can convey more information-even info about numbers. Letters are also better because they are a finite set with infinite outcomes. Letters are adaptable to many languages-that is they know how to dance more than one dance. Numbers brag about being the substance of the "universal" language- math. Tell that to the other universal languages: Music and romance. Numbers indicate quantity, but letters can indicate quality and be used (by spelling every number) to indicate quantity as well. Numbers starts with the word numb.

Well they are both convenient lies we use in an attempt to describe the truth. But letters are better for two reasons 1) you can use a word to describe a number but not vice versa and 2) can you imagine how much number poetry would blow?

Obviously you know nothing of the world of numbers.
The only good letters are "X" and "Y"!

Err no. Without numbers we wouldn't even be here. This site would not work, there would be literally zilch .;-))

But who would even want to use this site if it were not for the letters we use to make the words we use to express our thoughts and ideas.

Not only that kkcoyne but numbers are easier to count by. Also many languages have different alphabets, lets say you are german and you are in a library looking for a book. You could count with letters and numbers lets say row A column 150 so in German, you would be thinking "Ah, funfzig und einhundert. Fairly easy. Now in letters that would be row A, and however you come up with 150 in letters. I suppose you could use the letter according to its numerical location in the alphabet. Unfortunately there is no letter with the numerical location of 0. Another disbenefit with letters is that, like with roman numerals

I think you said something worthwhile and intelligent but I think it's over my head, do you care to re-phrase and maybe lose the German. No disrespect intended but i'm not really getting this.

I disagree with myself. Numbers are understood by more people at least in the most basic of ways-if in no other way, almost everyone can use numbers to count on their fingers. It is true, however, that after a certain level the use of numbers is understood by a limited number of people.
