| Kirk Hammett Is Overrated. |
| I'm not saying he's not very technically proficient, but the guitar world just seems to love him, despite the fact that in modern times he just seems to play pentatonic solos, hidden behind his Wah-wah pedal. There are/have been equally good (if not better) guitarists who aren't half as well known as Hammett, such as 'Dimebag', who I think isn't as recognised as he should be. The same applies to James Hetfield, who manages to play insanely fast and complex riffs whilst also singing, but is not recognised as a great. |

I agree with your modern times application but not with the overrated thing. Dimebag is very rated
by the guitar world. Hetfields downstroke rythym playing is downright legendary.
When rating guitarists (there's alot of great guitarists) it's difficult to ignore the content of
material. In Hammetts case, he has been involved in a substantial amount of material that has had a
huge influence. Within this material, he has been creative, technical and very fast. His wah work is
very good too.
He's not in my top 10, but I don't think he's overrated.
If anythings overrated in Metallica, I would go with Hetfields vision for the modern Metallica. (I
don't think it's overrated, I just don't like it) |
