It's not the only reason for obesity. Poor exercise, and eating junk food obsessively, and fried
foods, is what leads to obesity. I can understand though that some people have medical problems. But
that doesn't give them an excuse to sit on their duff all day eating ding dongs and twinkies. I'm
not saying that you shouldn't eat junk food, I'm just saying regulate it and make sure you do enough
exercise so you won't end up fat. Like I'm a huge sucker for ice cream, but if I eat it i make sure
I burn off those extra calories |

Yeah. Junk foods are empty calories. |

Absolutely, although it is just one of many factors, and I'll fully agree with members of the
AGAINST column that individuals' habits and actions are still a big part of it.
What's creepy to me is how transfats, salt, sugar, corn syrup, and white flower can be mixed into
foods which on the surface don't even appear to be junk food but in actuality are really quite bad
for you. Have you read the labelling on most loaves of bread lately? There's a lot more fat,
transfat, sugar, salt, etc. In most bread than peole realize. And it doesn't have to be. You can
make bread with just flour, yeast, and water - it does not need to be formulated with lots of other
stuff. |

Nah, junk food doesn't lead to obesity; excessive eating and genetics do. If you burn food like a
furnace, chances are junk food won't even touch you. If you were always chubby, even junk food in
moderation is going to pack on pounds. Take Michael Phelps for example: He burns 4,000 calories for
every swimming session he goes through. He eats all kinds of junk food that puts him around
8,000-10,000 calories a day. His eating habits would be unhealthy if it weren't for his exercising. |

No...junk food does not lead to obesity...its over eating that leads to it...eating to much of any
food will cause you to gain weight...not just "junk food".... |

In most cases, the habits and actions of people lead to obesity, and not junk food on its own. I had
a full Canadian breakfast this morning, with the obligatory sausage, bacon, eggs and toast. Sure, a
meal like this isn't terribly healthy, but if I enjoy it once a month, it really won't make me any
more likely to become obese. The same goes for the occasional Big Mac or KFC chicken.
Such a wide array of food that we eat qualifies as junk food that if we were to vilify all of it and
cut it out of our diet, we would be left with precious little to eat, save hummus and baby carrots.
Ocean Spray juices are full of sugar and calories, fish sticks and egg rolls are high in fat and
instant noodles are full of sodium. We may not consider these as your typical junk foods, but they
certainly would fit nicely into this category.
As Pokechamp correctly points out, the key here is moderation. But I see nothing really wrong with
junk food itself, since so much of what we eat qualifies as such. Adults should decide for
themselves how much they ultimately consume. If they are irresponsible, sooner or later they will
realize this and face the consequences. |

Obesity is being big. Being big is caused by eating big. If people are so powerless to stop eating
it makes no difference if they eat salad or icicles they are out of control. |
