John Lennon's Song Imagine Should Be Performed As It Was Written
The song contains the lines "Imagine there's no countries ... And no religions too." Apparently, when the song is performed live in America, the "no religions too" line is often left out, and sometimes, grotesquely, changed to "and one religion too", completely twisting the original meaning of the words in a way that would have made Lennon squirm. Have some respect for the artist. If you don't like the song as he wrote it, don't perform it. But at least have the decency not to take it and twist it to suit your own sick belief system.

John's version is the best and should be left alone. I have never heard this version you talk about. Maybe in the insane bible belt but those people are nut cases anyway they don't represent the US.

Even if you don't agree with the lyrics, perform it the way it is written. It's not like you're going to play it for fundy Christians.

John Lennon along with the rest of the beatles are very much a part of our music history....I think it was wrong to change his lyrics its just like those who change what we say on here to suit fit... Let someone believe and say what they want i think that it shows way more said how he had it before....no lies

I'm don't know much about John Lennon, I do agree songs should be preformed as they're written.

I agree, let it be performed as it was written, a Marxist rant of fantasy.

I love the way lennon made this song. It is amazing. But i also feel only he can perform it that way, and as respect to him it SHOULD be performed differently, cause nobody will ever be able to compare to him!

I don't see any problem with people changing around the lyrics of songs. It happens all the time and not just with John Lennon's Imagine. For example, last December public schools in Ottawa, Canada, performed a new, secular version of "Silver Bell." The word "Christmas" was replaced with "festive" throughout the song, which meant that the children sang about how "soon it will be festive day." Although I think that this is foolish, I didn't get upset over it, like most parents and much of the media did.

We don't owe John Lennon anything and we are free to do what we please with his song. It's a very good song, indeed, even if his lyrics are the lame and naive musings of an aging, drugged up hippie, who in his stupor felt that "Imagine" was a sugar-coated version of the Communist Manifesto. If a group of Southern Baptists wants to change the song outright and turn it into a rousing evangelical hymn, then that is entirely their choice and they need not be scolded for apparently disrespecting a dead artist.

But it is okay for you to talk shit about john lennon and drugged out hippies. That is an abomination to scold those that have done wonders in the world i may not believe in god but i don't scold him.. what have you done in your life but criticize.??...???
