JFK's Assassination Was A Government Conspiracy
I just want to see what people have to say about this, because I don't know why Lee Harvey Oswald would want to kill JFK (or if he didn't, why anyone else would want to). If you want to go further, explain your opinions on the weird coincidences between his death and Abraham Lincoln's.

I honestly don't know, and I'll acknowledge many have delved far deeper into this question than I ever will -- and yet still it isn't resolved.

I just think where there's smoke there's fire. Why after all this time are some (and not just a few) people absolutely adamant it was a conspiracy? Well, it's because they've got some pretty good leads even if they don't have the smoking gun.

I have to disagree. There are precious few leads. As technology has improved, most of the physical theories have been debunked.

It's pretty much left up to the conspiracy theory behind Oswald alone. Castro, the mob, LBJ...the list can be long. After all these years, there has been no evidence surface. For all practical purposes, no leads and no smoke.

Of course it was a conspiracy. Even Richard Nixon, on the secretly recorded White House tapes, said the verdict of the Warren Commission (which pinned the blame on Oswald) was the "greatest hoax ever perpetuated".

Incidentally, there were only two guys who couldn't remember where they were when Kennedy was killed : George Bush and Richard Nixon. When there whereabouts was investigated, guess where it turned out to have been : Dallas. They just happened to be in Dallas at the time Kennedy was killed, but it somehow slipped their minds.

Hmm, very interesting information. I've never heard that before. I'd like to know you're opinion about something else I've heard: was JFK assassinated so that Lyndon Johnson could take his role as President?

I'll skip right to the "coincidences".

"Abraham Lincoln and JFK were elected to congress in 1846 and 1946, and to the Presidency in 1860 and 1960."
While true, it's hardly surprising, considering that elections are 4 years apart.

"Both presidents were shot on a Friday."
The odds are 1/7. Not that small.

"Both were assassinated by Southerners."
A dubious use of "Southerners". JWB was born in Maryland, yet spent a great deal of his life in the North.

"Both were succeeded by Southerners."
Seeing as Abraham Lincoln wanted to appeal to the South, of course he chose a Southerner as his Vice President. Kennedy was from New England, and wanted to appeal to the South and South West. An obvious vice president would be Johnson.

"Booth ran from a theater into a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse and into a theater."
Inaccurate and superficial. Booth ran from a theater that in which plays are produced, and ran into a tobacco shed DAYS LATER, which is hardly a warehouse. Oswald ran from a warehouse, but he ran into a MOVIE theater, HOURS later.

It's not difficult to find patterns and coincidences from two entirely different sets of data, and cast the rest aside.

Nice response. I don't think those are any more than coincidences, but it's amusing to hear about them.

I can't claim to have much real knowledge. I will mention two things; I have seen reliable evidence, including a full scale reproduction of the 'magic bullet' that I found entirely credible. Secondly I think Oswald was capable of making those shots.

I always thought that it was a given that it wasn't LHO. We even learnt at school about the poor view from the book depository, the inaccuracy and firing rate of the gun, the fact that LHO was a poor shot in the army etc. Then recently I saw a documentary that showed the view from the book depository and it was fine. They showed LHO's record from the army and he was the best shot in his group. They got the same gun and a man shot off 3 shots quickly and accurately. I am still in 2 minds but the fact that there appeared to be a conspiracy about the conspiracy theory has left me not knowing what to believe.

I just saw a documentary where a group reconstructed the entire event and took the different shots at dummy heads filled with a substance that simulated brain matter. The only shots that came close to the same results were from the depository window. The results were eerily similar to what was seen on tape and by two eye witnesses who saw inside the car at the hospital.

They also proved the motorcycle cop with the open microphone was not where second shooter theorists said he had to be.

Hmmm...not sure, but if you want a good response against it, go to the Central Intelligence Agency website, and make a search in unclassified documents for JFK assassination.

JFK's asasination was proven to be a planned out criminal act against not just one man but the whole country.

I don't think it was a conspiracy, I just think that the government just wanted to blame somebody likely for the assassination.

Although this is one of the more credible conspiracy theories, I just think there is insufficient evidence to know what really happened. Although it may seem very clear that it was indeed Lee Harvey Oswald acting alone, there are some things that just don't fit and a few reasons to doubt that explanation. I guess the truth will never come out.

For now though, I choose to believe that it wasn't a government conspiracy.

I don't necessarily believe it in any particular conspiracy theory. I believe there is a lot more to this situation that we will never know. The possibilities are endless.
