If you are a politician. |

I think that we should take part in political discourse by staying informed and voting in elections,
but I always encourage people considering a run for office to think twice. When intelligent,
thoughtful people decide to enter the world of politics, they invariably lose their ability to think
critically and independently.
Politicians must master the art of simplification, where complex issues must be presented in a
deceptive manner, in order to fit a specific political agenda. When career politicians behave like
hacks, I am usually not surprised or disturbed. I do, however, find it really sad when academics and
respected community leaders run for office and end up with tunnel vision, due to partisan party
politics.
The bottom line is that it is good and healthy to be familiar with the political process, to take
part in elections and to read up on current events. Yet it is better to remain an independent
observer, with no ties and commitments to any party, in order maintain a degree of intellectual
honesty. |

They say that if you do not vote, then you cannot complain. I am against this phrase. If there is no
one to decent to vote for, why would you waste you time? One can complain about the decent people
who could have or should have ran for office. I think people should stay out of politics. They are
all a bunch of unethical, lowlife liars. They always are doing illegal things or unethical things
and most are definitely a poor model of a typical American person. No wonder the world looks at the
US like they are a bunch of lying sex maniacs. The politicians, who are in the news all the time,
give America a bad image. Politics is not what it used to be. Today, it is nothing short of a wild
circus. Above all, most politics (especially Republicans) have no idea of what they are doing or
what they need to do. Politicians are just a bunch of idiots anymore. |

It's ok for you to get into politics. You know politics are always different than what they seem.
If you start thinking differently, do me a favor and get out. There's plenty of narrow minded views
into politics. |

I disagree. I'm a 14 and I know for a fact that common civilians should be up-to-date and active in
politics. |

Well if we stay out of politics then there will be no one to govern us. We do need some people to
govern us. If we had no one there, that would be anarchy. Last time I checked, anarchy doesn't
really work out that well in societies. |

Those who stay out of politics will inevitably be ruled by those who choose not to stay out of
politics. More often than not these will be sinister figures like George Bush and Dick Cheney.
Getting involved in politics, and making judgements about it, is part of what it means to be an
adult human being, a moral actor in the world. To avoid it completely is to abandon morality and
live life like a slave. |
