A stent, for those who do not know, is like a little spring that keeps your arteries open so blood may flow through. With this in mind, I ask you a very simple question: Why does it matter what brand stent you get to keep your heart going? They are all the same!
I doubt they are all the same, but advertising them on TV is still pointless. I wouldn't trust my
life to a company based on which one had the better marketing department.
My dad, a cardiologist, never subscribes his patients medicines that are advertised on T.V. for that same reason -- he doesn't trust the companies. Most of them, anyway.
Or another way to look at it - no one without a heart condition is going to think "gee, I want one
of those things inside me, let me go talk to my doctor." Instead they'll go about life until they
have an adverse event and/or their doctor finds something during a check-up and then they'll have
medical guidance for whatever is chosen after that. The value of advertising the stent on
television means almost nothing because neither the patient nor the doctor are going to make their
choice based on a TV commercial.
