I think it is needed, along with many other changes to the illegal alien policies. A wall is not the
end all, cure all, but it is a step in the right direction. There are a limited number of border
patrol agents, and a fence, or better yet a wall, would make those border patrol agents more
effective. It would be much cheaper to build and maintain a wall, than it would to hire enough
border patrol agents to get the job done. Right now, those agents ride solo or in pairs as they
patrol, when they come across illegals they are often in groups of 20 or more, when they see the
agents coming they scatter, those agents catch a few and the others make it through. Its a numbers
game. |

I don't know if it's necessary to have a fence as it's currently mandated, but certainly some sort
of barrier as part of a comprehensive immigration plan is necessary, otherwise just anyone who wants
to walk across the border can do so, be it drug smugglers, terrorists, criminal gangs, etc.
Personally, I vote for a 1-mile exclusion zone, complete with electrified fences, mines and
automated machine-gun nests. |

Huge waste of tax dollars, it covers less than half the boarder so there are huge gaps, on Pen and
Teller Bullshit they had some illegals build the exact same type of fence that would go on the
boarder and it took all the illegals 3-5 minutes to either go under, through, or over it. It was
pathetic.
We need to fix the system to get into this county. Thinking about illegal immigration there are 2
ways, fix the immigrants (won't happen) or fix the laws. |

A fence gives protection above ground, but what about underground? Uh oh. It'd be simple to dig a
tunnel below the fence. I think we need to use a strong satellite system to track illegal
immigrants and capture them. |

I totally agree wit Hidell, but I would include that stopping people from being citizens, just
because they came across the border and had their baby, would also be an intelligent move. Stop
spending Billions of dollars in free medical care to illegals, that's just California alone, not
counting Arizona, New Mexico or Texas.
AS far as the other immigrants, coming over from Europe, They didn't sneak across the border,
or gofer there way under it to get here. They came LEGALLY. |

If you're against illegal immigration, go back to Europe. |

I totally agree hidell it should be harder penalties on the employers who are caught hiring them and
allowing them to work in the USA without being a resident. I don't know about prison but maybe some
way of tightening their business and fining them hard. |

Taller fences, taller ladders, longer fences, different illegal entry points. It's not the fence
that will protect our border, but the people. We need enough people with enough information and
permission to act to patrol the border. The other thing to consider is the impact of a fence on the
environment. |

This seems ludicrous. I find it hard to believe that determined would-be illegal immigrants won't be
able to find a way round a fence, either by digging under it, climbing over or even going by
waterways around it. To me, the fence is just a gimmick used by politicians to try and demonstrate
concern with the issue.
It is appropriate to be concerned about the immigration problem. I think the real solution, however,
lies with the employers. After all, why do foreigners choose to come to America illegally? It's not
to see the Statue of Liberty or visit the Grand Canyon. It's to work, to earn money either for
themselves or their families. Someone must be employing them therefore, otherwise they wouldn't
come.
That is where the problem should be attacked. At the moment employers can employ undocumented aliens
with minimal risk. The downside of doing it needs to be toughened up. Those who employ illegal
aliens should be handed either huge fines or prison time to act as a deterrent. If that was done,
the employment of the illegals would cease and therefore so would their immigration. |
