Similar to what Specter said, (Even though Robots are biased.) thinking logical all the time is the
closest thing to unbiased as you can get.
And it's what humans are meant to do, be illogical. It's where our emotions make us what we are.
Where some may see it as a weakness, I see it as our greatest weapon.
Take the moment in I Robot where Will Smith is underwater drowning with the little girl who has no
way out. The Robot who saved Will Smith Calculated the girl had a lower chance of survival than Will
Smith. So it saved Will Smith instead.
Even with Robots thinking logically as in Sci-Fi films, they are swayed by information. And if that
were a human coming to the rescue, he surely would have gotten the child. I would have and then come
back for Will Smith.
So it's not that anyone is always biased, but that they can be either or; Biased or Unbiased.
You may not hold information enough to have an opinion, or you may.
So I don't totally agree, but even with Humans being as opinionated as they are, there are moments
where we are unbiased. |

It seems that a lot of people voting on this, view bias as a solely negative trait. It is
definitely negative if one is biased towards a certain group or groups of people. Bias is not the
same thing as bigotry or discrimination towards other human beings in a lot of cases. One may be
biased when there is an argument between their child and another child. They do not have to act on
that bias. I don't. If I did, that would teach my children that, if they mess up, I am going to
defend even their poor choices or actions and help them avoid the negative consequences of them. Of
course, I still love and support them if they are wrong, but I do not allow the fact that I am
biased towards my own children to effect another child when there is a disagreement. I have to hear
all of the facts. I have thoughts and opinions on different things, but I don't have any bias
toward any specific ethnicity, religion or sexual orientation. I don't like the fact that we
convict people in the media before the person has been tried and convicted in a court of law.
Everyone is innocent until proven guilty. There are people in the media spotlight that most people,
myself included, cannot help but view as guilty because of the information that is revealed. I do
not see how these people get the fair trial that is their right under the US Constitution. As
horrible and vile of a crime such as the one allegedly committed by Casey Anthony, I cannot see how
she can receive a fair trial. Although, I suppose there are some who are less affected by what she
allegedly did than others. We all have passions and view different things in different ways. I
don't think anyone thinks that murdering a child, one's own child, is a good thing, yet someone may
be more impartial towards her than I could ever manage. Still, if I had a compelling reason that I
had to deal with her, I can honestly say that I would not treat her like she was less than human.
I'm only confident about this because, as a medical assistant, we had a patient who shook a foster
child who was an infant and nearly killed him. He is never going to be able to fully recover or
even live independently. Before her trial, and I do not have a clue as to why she was out walking
the streets, she would come into the office with migraines. Although I had to fight the urge to
shine bright lights into her eyes and fight to keep my composure knowing that, at her hands, a baby
was forever harmed, I did treat her in a professional way. I had to put the situation in
perspective. I was there to do a job. She was a patient and, if she was there for pain, I had to
address her problem. I hated it. I found it very difficult, but it is possible to treat others in
the way we want to be treated even when we have a bias against them.
Definition: Bias is a term used to described a tendency or preference towards a particular
perspective, ideology or result, especially when the tendency interferes with the ability to be
impartial, unprejudiced, or objective. (I think it was from Wikipedia...whatever the first site was
that pulled up after a google search of the word "bias").
The point I hope to make is that, while we all to have a preference towards certain things, that
makes us human. It does not make us less tolerant of others or bigots. One's opinion on many
things could be biased and have no negative implication at all. |

No if someone were unbiased that would mean they had no opinion at all and everyone has an opinion |

Of course, but I try to override my feelings towards a particular person and treat so-and-so
equally. |

No, everyone is a little, if not all, bias in all of their opinions. |

I can't see how anyone could be completely unbiased in anyway. Even in our logic and reasoning our
subconscious mind will attempt to tweak what we are thinking in favour of an outcome that goes along
with its own warped and unusual agenda. I think a society could be unbiased in many ways but
probably not completely. |

How do you be unbiased?
You would have to crack down all a persons religious believes, ethics, morals, etc...
The closest to an unbiased person I can think of is a child. A baby does have a very different take
on the world than an adult. |

Someone who has no opinion whatsoever and is immune from any influences does not exist. |

Other than me, everyone is biased. Or am I making an assumption? |

No, no matter how hard a person will try there will always be a debate or subject that they cannot
remain neutral or are unbias on. Saying that though having a bias on a particular topic or debate
isn't necessarily a bad thing, it just shows conviction or passion for that subject. |

Me, I am not biased, I am perfect. But then I would say that.
No I think everyone is biased in some way, on some subjects, some of the time. Some more than
others. It is not necessarily always a bad thing, it could be described as observant, passionate,
having conviction in your opinions, and...human.
We should however try and put it to one side as much as possible to avoid jumping to incorrect
conclusions. |

For as long as the earth spins on it's axis, there will never be an unbiased person. It's just
human nature to judge; you can never escape it. You can keep reminding yourself not to judge a book
by it's cover, but you won't completely cure yourself. It's one of the cold hard facts of life. |

No, technically we all have preconceptions and opinions based on our life experience. We can
consciously try to be fair and objective but we're not machines and thus we're never 100% unbiased. |
