I agree with Damien -- the purpose of life is to propagate. Some argue that all living things exist merely as flickering conveyances for the proliferation of their genetic code.

And of course there is life after death. You're alive, although multitudes who came before you are dead.

Yes, there is one ultimate purpose in life besides all others; to survive and procreate. Every basic instinct of almost every creature on this planet has, if nothing else, the ability to procreate, thus "planting the seed" for the next generation to come.

If this question was geared toward superficial purpose, then no; humans created that sort of purpose which means it never originally existed until humans willed it to exist. The perception of purpose can range depending on the person you speak to, as one man might want amass power while one woman might want to amass money; I consider these superficial.

It's not like we are put here to run around like robots and be skeptical about all of the unknown objects around the world. Life is to experience the way you can handle what happens, even if there is no God.

Yes I believe there is a purpose to life and yes I believe there is life after death.

Although I do have to say your debate heading and the subheading go opposite directions. "There is a Purpose of Life" asks for justification of life itself not necessarily what follows it. The implication that life only has a purpose because of what happens after it ends really cheapens the value of life itself. To me life is a challenge, a chance to do the best you can with whatever you have to work with, and life has merit on it's own irregardless of whether your maker rewards you when it's over. But yeah, I do think something happens when you die too.

Also, I don't quite understand why so many people are afraid of death. If you believe in an afterlife then you have nothing to fear. If you don't believe in an afterlife and now is all you've got then enjoy the time instead of worrying about when you're going to die.

Everything has a creater and purpose eg.a pen made by parker for what to wright with ,same with a iron made by phillips for what to iron cloths same is the example for the .humans ....................................................

I posted on this side because I agree there is a purpose of life and life after death.

I didn't add anything because I agreed with both topic and description. A rare event on this site.

And I don't want to argue with someone who disagrees about something neither of us can prove. Especially since I can't lie and say I don't know this to be true. And then someone is going to say I can't know. Then I'm going to say that is their opinion. And they're going to say I can't prove there's life after death. And I'm going to say I can't prove it to them because you have to want to know before you can know. Then they're going to say I'm living in a fantasy. Then I'm going to say I'd rather live in a perfect fantasy than this temporal anything. Then they're going to say I'm holding back science. Then I'm going to say the belief in eternity has driven alot of science, especially astrophysics. Then they are going to tell me to prove it. Then I'm going to say study Newton. Then they are going to say they don't think Newtons belief in eternity had anything to do with his searching for scientific answers. Then I'm going to say never mind.

Which in this particular case...I took a shortcut.

Depending on how one may look at this statement (and it is a statement) the answer varies, obviously everyone is different but no ones knows if there is a purpose or not ,or do they? Do we believe those who say they have a destiny to fulfill or that god sent them here? Or do we believe those who say we have evolved over generations from apes to human beings who'll keep on evolving? I think that people would like to believe there is a purpose in life therefore making it easier to fulfill it but i don't see a purpose, i see reality i see what people want to see, not truth.

This is a very misleading question. Is there a purpose to life? Sure, every person makes their own purpose, therefore the answer is true. Then they ask about life after death, which is ridiculous. If you're going to ask about life after death, then obviously this life doesn't have much purpose, does it?

First off, the topic wasn't a question.

Saying, asking the question is there life after death is rediculous is saying humanity is rediculous. It's an age old question and those who have not asked it are in a monstrous minority.

How asking the question says this life obviously doesn't have much of a purpose is comical.

Nice post.

You're missing a key component on life after death. While it's true (and I say it alot) that compared to eternity, the temporal would be the smallest measurable thing, practically everyone who believes in the eternal does not consider the person to be temporal. The experience of a person's life in the temporal is in my opinion, much greater than this entire universe.

I believe your personal life here on this earth, is the greatest miracle that could ever be imagined. Much bigger than God creating a rock so big he cant lift it. It's your persona, the thing that is unique. There is no other you, not even in eternity. Without you eternity is missing something. Eternity can't be missing something. It's impossible. I believe your existence is impossible. But you exist.

It seems to me, that I clearly place more importance on your life than you do. I believe your purpose is to add to eternity. It's impossible, but that is how great a creation you are.

I know I can't prove it to you. I am simply trying to clarify your perception of me. I don't mind you saying what I describe here is fantasy. Just hoping you understand the fantasy I'm describing and the effect it has on my life. The effects it has on my life are quite contrary to what you constantly describe.

I'm not saying I'm better than anyone else because of these beliefs, just that these beliefs make me a better person than I would be otherwise.

Anyway, I believe the events we experience in this life add to our being. I believe our lives here in the void, are impossible and this impossible experience is an addition to eternity which can have no additiion.

I assure you I am not a hindrance to society, science, or to the progress of humanity in this universe. I work over 50 hours a week in a job that is quite honest and teach my children to think with an open mind.

I'm not blowing my own horn. I'm just trying to say I'm alot more like you than you believe.

Unfortunately, the fact that you cannot prove anything really is problematic for your belief. I'm not saying you can't believe it, you can certainly believe anything you want, but if you want to convince anyone else that your belief is valid, you need to demonstrate not only why you believe it, but why everyone else should believe it as well.  If all you have is an emotional security blanket that you constructed out of whole cloth, then no one else has any obligation to take it seriously, nor should they.

You're very wrong, I place a lot of importance on my life because this is the only life we know we have.  For those who buy into an eternal afterlife, however, what we experience here is a minuscule moment where we feel pain and loss and death, something probably best forgotten in the scheme of eternal life and bliss.

As for eternity missing something, considering that the overwhelming majority of possible people who never get a chance to live is mindnumbingly staggering, I'd say that eternity is missing an awful lot.  We're the lucky ones, we actually get to live.  An almost infinite number of genetic combinations, people who are possible but never actually occur, never get the opportunity.  Apparently, eternity can be missing something.

I've never said you were blowing your own horn, nor that you're a hindrance to society, only that your beliefs, no matter how heartfelt they may be to you, simply are not supportable.  They may be a comfort to you, they may feel good to you, but for someone, like myself, who is looking only for demonstrable reality, who strongly values believing as many true things as possible, rejecting as many false things as possible, and knowing how to tell the difference between the two, it really holds no interest to me how it makes you feel, only if it's factually true.

Unfortunately, the fact the human link to God within one's being cannot be proven to you is problematic for you. This is not a problem for me.

I don't want to convince anyone of anything spiritual. The thought of it makes my skin crawl.

Much like you I'm sure, I demonstrate my beliefs with the life I live. The only reason for people to believe what I believe would be because they have to. It's the only way to believe what I believe. So you see, there's no should about it.

I can't be very wrong when I say it seems to me. Your explanation of the importance regarding the only life you live, for me, still falls very short of your eternal life.

Again, (according to you) since you can't know what you're talking about regarding eternity, your evaluation of "best forgotten in the scheme of eternal life and bliss" is out of bounds. It is based on temporal reasoning and simply falls much too short.

It is possible that in eternity, all possible people could easily be introduced. Not for your reasoning. With my reasoning it would be childs play.

What you describe in your last paragraph is fine if you ever find the truth. If not, it would be possible the faith placed in your own reasoning could be blinding you to the "feelings" that you certainly have.

I don't believe that people are given a purpose in life. I think they can give one to themselves.

I also don't believe that there is life after death.
