Bush/Cheney Want A "National Emergency" So They Can Stay In Power
Is the Bush/Cheney administration trying to create a "national emergency" pretext for invoking martial law and canceling the upcoming presidential election? It's hard to escape the conclusion that, after lying us into two disastrous, losing wars, this administration is using their last months in office to try to provoke the mother of them all.

No. Bush is just riding it out until January. I don't blame him either. These crazy liberals have made it difficult for him to get anything done.

What did those "crazy liberals" do to contribute to the dismantling of our economy, or to the escalating Georgia-Ukraine conflict with Russia?

Just asking...

You have to be kidding...
About the last thing G. Bush wants is to be president another 4 years. The only president that went 3 terms in office was Roosevelt and he died in office. That's an extremely stressful job.
The only person who would want to be there forever is.................................Bill Clinton
guess why?

 I give up, why?

And why did Bush sign Presidential Directives NSDP51 and HSDP20 last year expressly giving him the power to suspend congress and elections, "indefinitely", whenever he declares a "national emergency"?

Bug, I don't think anybody here is debating tinfoil hats, black helicopters, or warrantless "eavesdropping".

Except you, that is.

Do you have any opinions on the actual topic of this debate?

I disagree with your exact principle, but I would say that it's possible that Putin invaded Georgia ( and created tension ) with the idea that the US will realise that with a pending Cold War, someone Like McCain who is focused on Defence would be more suitable than Obama. And hence another Republican Govt, and the downward spiral for the US continues.

Putin knows we're overextended and wanted to send a message to the Ukraine as much as anything. Also payback to the US for the former Yugoslavia episode last decade. I would agree that McCain would be more wiling to re-engage with the Soviets, but there is evidence that the US was involved with inciting the Georgian conflict.
