I think it's important to make the distinction between rap music in general, and 'gangsta rap'
I personally do not like rap music (except to "dance" to)
Rap music is a very easy going kind of music where there is a constant rhythm played on and there is
a poem which is sung in a very stylist manner. Young generation is fond of rap music as this music
goes with the pulse of the teenagers and they really enjoy this music. In most cases we can see that
the youth while partying in a disco or in a get together, they play rap music which also creates a
very jovial party mood. Thus we can say that there is absolutely no harm or bad influence of this
kind of music on the youth. They enjoy this music and that is why they listen to it. After all it is
also one kind of music and it can never have a bad influence on any one. It is just a matter of
choice and preference.
Its a style of music. If you don't like it don't listen to it. The choices you make in your life
should not be on some song. I think it helps the youth listen to what goes on in the world. Nobody
can protect them from everything. Have them listen to rap and watch t.v. And show them the bad
things people do and teach them not to be like that. Don't shelter them.
Entertainment needs to be taken at face value...its for entertainment and not for you to teach your
kids with I've listened to rap music all my life and there's nothing wrong with me. I see it as
something to take my mind off other things and to keep me entertained not to teach me the ways of
life
Rap is no different from rock and roll some is geared toward debauchery and sex and some can be
inspirational and positive, I don't consider all rap to be "gangster rap" to vilify an entire genre
of music is unfair and could be perpetuated in almost all forms of music.
I've yet to see any rap song that doesn't contain anything vulgar like curses, sex, or drugs. I can name a plethora of rock songs that don't mention anything vulgar, and some metal songs too.
It's just a style of music. There is no denying that the concept of rap has steered off it's
original values but still if young people choose to listen to the lyrics and act out a scenario
featured in a song then I am sorry to say but they are idiots. Music is MUSIC, an art form, not say
a religion
