It most definitely is!
Look at the "NWA" (let alone their name) but the songs that they sing. "Eff the Police". Yes that is
most certainly the best influence we could have on our society, especially with young children. Eff
the Police. The people who keep their sorry selves safe at night, and people who make their country
an okay place to say whatever they want, they constantly say horrid words about.
Oh yes, and might I bring up their absolutely WONDERFUL treatment of women and the way they talk
about them. I am not a feminist by any means, but what honestly gives them the right to talk about
females the way they do. And here, we're only talking about mainstream rap/hip-hop music.
What about the lyrics that are to violent, sexual, or obscene to even be heard on radio.
This is what their legacy is? Drug abuse and violence in the worst way.
I believe all rap and hip hop music should be banned. |

Rap music is indeed a bad influence. It talks about having sex, doing drugs, women sleeping
around.... It doesn't set a good example whatsoever. I don't see how it could possibly have a
positive influence on anyone. If you look into the rappers lives, it is even worse. They portray
themselves as thugs. The rappers can get away with it because they have money, but little wannabe's
are just going to get themselves in trouble. |

It's not the music style that's bad, it the people who make it bad. |

Well, it's like stereotyping a whole genres of music. I agree, SOME music is bad a wrong as it talks
about drugs, hoes and saying the police are bad, but rap originally started from poetry in Africa
(that's why a lot of rap people are black) and it was an angry version of stating a point. For
example, instead of saying
"please give me some money", they would say
"man, give me the dough, am tranna feed ma son, but I'm tranna afford a gun, to get you, u rich as a
jew, you greedy bastard, i can't even afford yogurt!
Though this sounds really bad, to take a insight in these lyrics, they are deep for a reason. And
also, sometimes, to fit in, you have to swear. Old school rappers; the people who started it, rapped
about real issues such as poverty and racism. Tupac was famous for rapping about giving rights to
woman. Unfortunately, today rapper who are famous, have bad lyrics, but good delivery. This means,
the rapper is saying stuff like,
"i will kill you",
but it will sound good, unfortunately. If u think about it. It was the people who made these rappers
famous. In conclusion, some rap is bad, some rap is good. Do not stereotype. |

Well you are at it then it's not only rap that needs to be banned (In reference to Insanity "This is
what their legacy is? Drug abuse and violence in the worst way. I believe all rap and hip hop music
should be banned"). What about rock? It's a bad influence have you ever heard Ozzy Osbourne or
Buckcherry for example?
"Breaking laws, knocking doors
But there's no one at home
Made your bed, rest your head
But you lie there and moan
Where to hide, suicide is the only way out
Don't you know what it's really about
Wine is fine, but whiskey's quicker
Suicide is slow with liqueur
Take a bottle, drown your sorrows
Then it floods away tomorrows -Ozzy"
Could that not be considered a bad influence? It's promoting alcohol abuse and talks about suicide.
People have made points about the way women are portrayed in rap, how is that any better? So with
the rap I guess we've got to ban Rock as well. Ok moving on to the next genre that needs to be
banned or could even remotely be considered a bad influence... Lets tackle country music a couple
examples could be lets say Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood
"You need a man around here
You can't do it all by yourself
To me it's painfully clear
That you could use a little help
Someone to kill the spiders
Change the channel and drink the beer
Seems to me that you sure need
A man around here -Brad Paisley"
Woman cannot be independent?
"That I dug my key into the side of his pretty little souped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seats...
I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...
Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats. -Carrie Underwood"
Could that not also be considered a bad influence? Its promoting vandalism, and destruction of other
peoples property.
You see if you pick apart any kind of music by some and generalize it you will find that most music
today is a bad influence and needs to be banned from Rock, country, pop, right on down the line. But
not only the music of today but the music of yesterday as well that has any reference to drugs,
alcohol, promiscuity. Ignoring the fact that not all rap is a bad influence but rather looking at
the worst aspects of it. An example of this could include but would not be limited to let's say
Tupac...
"We gotta make a change...
It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes.
Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live
and let's change the way we treat each other.
You see the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do
what we gotta do, to survive."
Or
"And since we all came from a woman
Got our name from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women, do we hate our women?
I think it's time to kill for our women
Time to heal our women, be real to our women
And if we don't we'll have a race of babies
That will hate the ladies, that make the babies
And since a man can't make one
He has no right to tell a woman when and where to create one
So will the real men get up
I know you're fed up ladies, but keep your head up".
How would that be considered a bad influence? If you look at the genre I guess it is, but if you
actually read the words its not. Don't get me wrong I am not trying to say that no rap could be
considered a bad influence but not all of it is unless you want to take a narrowminded approach and
if you are going to do that you might as well go through and take stock of all other genres that
have something that could be considered a bad influence in it as well, cause anyone can nitpick like
I did above. |

I don't hate rap but i don't like it and it hasn't influenced me to say or do things meanly or
anything similar
lastly I'm also doing a debate similar to yours for school as well mines should swearing in music be
banned? |

It depends on what type of rap music you are talking about. This rap music that is full of foul
words, negative phrases and stupid things is a bad influence. On the other hand, Christian rap music
is a good influence. There is a lot of rap music that should not be allowed on the radio or
television. They should not even permit these so called, "professional artists" to make filthy music
that is a bad influence on today's society. Not only does it sound bad, it makes the artists look
bad as well. They should not even waste their time with such immaturity and stupidity. The USA is
the only country in the world that produces trashy music. It makes us look bad. |
