I tend to agree with justsumguy and the way he put it. I agree also with your 80% estimate.

Hey, not to be discouraged, truth doesn't require a majority of the vote to be true or not. So, it really doesn't matter what the 80% think. For them, ignorance is bliss.

Jesus is the only way to God but not in the sense that over 80% of people think.

It's a play on words. Here's a true statement:
Every person who has ever "found" a "way" to God was enabled because of Jesus.

This includes everyone who did so before the birth of Jesus. This would also include everyone who has done so never having heard of Jesus. This would also include anyone who has done so while not believing that Jesus enabled them. And yes, this would include anyone who has done so as a Muslim. And so on and so on.

I would not advise anyone to argue this with me. It would be silly.

My belief is that we will sll sit before "God" when we die. It's just a matter of how we arrive in the spirit world (heaven?). If we live life in a good and honourable way, we will go to "Him" without shame.

God is not an elite club which you can only reach if you're a paid member who knows the secret password and handshake. And frankly all the major religions treat it like that, and each subdenomination of Christianity believes somehow they've got it right and the rest of the Christians are mistaken.

Listen, the path to God is through acts of LOVE, COMPASSION, TOLERANCE, KINDNESS, and ENLIGHTENMENT. You can aspire to those things whether you get there through the Bible, or some other religion, or through university education, or through your own line of reasoning. And no kind and loving God would punish with hell a person who lived by the right ideals but simply wasn't born into the right club. Because let's face it almost everyone is born into a religion, almost no one seriously compares it with others to see if they're truly in the right one, they simply go through all their lives doing what they were told, and then they hope in the end they were in the right one. How could a wise and loving God punish someone for doing what their parents taught them? How could God send them to hell just because they were born in the Himalayas and had different beliefs. They may in fact had lived a kinder and more beautiful life than most Christians.

1) The Jews insist they're still waiting for the son of God to come, Jesus wasn't the one, which if believed would invalidate Jesus' divine claim to being the only path, 2) The Koran and Muslims insist Mohammad was the last true prophet and the Christian churches are out of date, you need to worship Jesus and Allah in the Muslim way for the true path, 3) Eastern religions claim the path is enlightenment, not following a code of rules as in the Bible, and it's the journey to enlightenment which is the path - not one man, 4) Native American cultures claim being one with nature and our ancestors is the path, not following a code of rules as in the Bible, 5) Subgroups within Christianity claim their version of worshipping Jesus is the only path and the rest of Christians are wrong, as in the born again Christians berrating the Catholics for sleepwalking through church and not spreading the word, or the group of Mormons who believe unless your name is written in a specific book you cannot be saved.

So you see it is not so simple as "Jesus is the only one to claim he was the truth".

Furthermore absolutely any living soul could have made that claim.  Even modern messianic leaders like David Koresh in the Branch Davidians or even Oral Roberts during the height of his fundraising claimed they were unique among the churches of their day and in their connection to God.

No, Jesus is the way to a wasted life.

You were the one that stated, very arrogantly I might add, that you understood my significance better than me and backed it up with absolutely nothing apart from the usual ‘I am eternal’ stuff. Well, give me something to go on then, something more concrete, not just your opinion. You then failed to answer my question; you just got angry and ranted. Just because you answer your basic fears by choosing to believe in simplistic myths and legends to justify yourself is a problem for you. Boo!
Also I never said we can’t know anything, again you’re failing to read what was said clearly, you’re just putting the words in my mouth that you want to hear. Maybe one day science will be able to explain exactly what our significance is but I very much doubt it will be in our lifetime. In the meantime I’m happy to go with what is demonstrably true, not just regurgitate some ancient religious dogma that is riddled with inconsistencies and has no supportive evidence whatsoever. Unless, of course, you can provide some because then I might change my mind.

Wrong my rebellious young jedi. I posed a question. Not only was it a question...I used the word seem. You MIGHT want to CONSIDER reevaluating your reaction and things you said. (oops, sorry justsumguy, after looking at what you typed, I see it was a question using the word seem and I realize i have errantly sent this debate in the wrong direction)

While reading through my posts, you will be hard pressed to find me being critical of anyones life. You will also not be finding me saying what people should be doing with their life or how they should think.

You came on this topic where you have no business (by your definition) delivering a statement which suggests people who believe Jesus has meaning in their life are living a wasted life. You are a joke.

Your arrogance is extreme. Your ignorance of the things you have said on this thread and your audacity to claim some sort of reasonable humility is a joke.

How you live your life and what you choose to adhere to as proof of your significance is yours. I start nothing with no one as to how they want to live or think. But as long as you want to start being critical of others beliefs ...I will be more than happy to challenge your reasoning that enables you to be critical of others. Doesn't matter to me whether you are religious or not. I do the same to the religious.

If you are not happy with your mind, let me know. I will be happy to try and help. If you are happy with your mind, I have no desire to change your mind.

I think it is you that has sent this debate in another direction by failing to address my question once again, and again with some unpleasantness. I am open-minded and willing to accept anything you say as long as you offer something to back it up. So far you haven’t, as it appears that your vanity won’t allow it. I’ll try and draw this to a close as I have just read your debate with Cephus under Science is religion or something like that where he has, with more eloquence than I can hope to show, demolished your arguments one after the other until you had nothing left to offer.
I also saw that you profess to ‘know god’, and as you claim to have knowledge of god, this then leads you into the fundamental trap of leaving yourself open to the same inevitable questions. Unfortunately you don’t seem to be able to answer these questions, you just react with anger and insults. My point that Jesus (or any religion) leads to a wasted life is at least backed up with evidence. Take for example Iran, a theocracy that won’t tolerate questions of its religion and reacts with anger, violence and suppression as did the Catholic church in the past. This has led to a lack of education and the ability to question or research. It is, unfortunately, a fact that thinking you have the answer without any evidence leads to indolence and vanity and, therefore a waste of life. It is like travelling back in time. 
Again, if you can offer anything else, I would be more than happy to listen to it, especially about your assertion of being eternal and how you know this. But if you can’t, then I really cannot see much point in going any further.

If you read something where you think Cephus demolished my argument with eloquence, then you are sold on your temporary existence. I cannot and have no desire to change your mind. Nor do I think you need me to do so.

You want proof. Your criteria for proof excludes the eternal person. Eternity is my basis for reason. You can disagree and call it what you want. My response will be the same as to Cephus. You have no reason. I say your existence is proof and you are the reason. You say this is not true. When I play the game by your rules, defining you on your terms, I am arrogant.

Remember, I believe you're eternal (see the opposite human thread). I believe your creator sees you the same as me. To be offended by this would seem silly.

There are many topics where we have addressed your issue about "christianity" and how it has been used for very bad things.

Again, your opening statement is more arrogant than anything I've said on this thread. It is extremely narrow thinking to ignore the great things that have been done by individuals who believe Jesus is meaningful. I blast Roman Catholicism on this site but I don't blast it's people.

Anyway, I would suggest (I know this upsets you) by your definition, you have no point other than the facts you know. The singlemost undebatable fact you know is you are going to die. So I say your purpose, by your definition and your proofs is death. It's the last thing you'll know. Again, by your definition. Notice how I don't say this leads to you wasting your life. I have no idea what kind of life you live. I wouldn't begin to assume.

By my definition, you are more important than the entire universe. Also, by my definition, you don't have to believe or know this is true. I think it would be a good thing to know during your life but it's fine if you don't.

By the way, to suggest Mother Theresa wasted her life is insane. While the organized religion she was a part of is in my mind accountable for some of the most horrible things known on this planet, this would suggest to me that there is a difference between the belief that Jesus is meaningful and organized religions that teach the same thing but are used by humans to excerpt power over people.

You and I would agree on many things regarding organized religions but I think I have a wider view. I wish this would not have to be construed as arrogance but it's probably unavoidable.

You're gonna be like Cephus and make me go back and list the logic string on this thread. When I do, you will crater like Cephus.

1. You opened with a conclusive statement that declared that Jesus was the way to a wasted life. This is an exceedingly arrogant statement. comparing your life to Mother Theresa's and the very large number of people like her who have devoted their entire lives to the poor and less fortunate is stupid arrogance. Same as Cephus. Even if you, under a completely different motive, have lived a number of years of your life living as I have with no electricity and no running water while helping those who are less fortunate, you would not be able to consider my life or it's motives a waste.

2.  I brought up the comparison of ceasing to exist as being a waste - the great contribution to nothing.

3. Your response didn't make any sense. It pretended as if I said continuing the human race was nothing when I said the opposite (ceasing to exist).

4. Since you chose to portray I said the opposite of what I said, I chose to play in your opposite world. I answered with a question to your statement. I asked what the significance was to your statement.

5. You had to ask what I was talking about. Very strange.

6. I gave you a very clear answer to your question. To address the significance of continuing the human race and to take into account those who have already died.

7. You stated that the significance was based on the chance of us being a small representation of life in the universe. You ignored those who have already died and asked me if agreed with you.

8. I answered you. I told you I thought our continuing was important because I believe we are eternal so our purpose never ends. I then gave you an example of the possibility of all life ending in the universe and again asked you to explain the significance of continuing human life if all life ultimately came to an end. I tried to give you a hint when I asked the question that it would seem I know more about your significance than you do. In other words, the significance you are giving to life is moot if all life ultimately ends. (science suggests the universe has a beginning and an end - the odds that human life will continue forever based on scientific evidence are definitely in question.

9. You then turned my question into a statement which enabled you to pin it to my ego. I could go on but you simply are making too many mistakes here.

I’m not making you do anything, I thought we were done. Well OK, let’s carry on. I’m didn’t say there wasn’t religious individuals that have helped people, I was speaking generally. That would be your mistake (we can all make them). Even if she helped people, Mother Theresa is a bad example as, amongst other things, she denounced contraception as being equivalent to abortion. I shouldn’t have to explain the problems with that. Again going backwards instead of forwards.
You asked for its significance, I simply asked for clarification. Nothing strange about that and then I gave you an answer. As for the dead, well they have served their purpose in the continuation of the species. What’s not to get?
You asked a hypothetical question about life ceasing in the universe. If all life ceased in the universe then all life has ceased, then it does render any significance we attribute to as moot. Kind of obvious unless you know better, and if you do please share it. 
You again speak of being eternal but fail to explain how you know this and you ignored my questions regarding how you know god. Perhaps you should address them rather than just repeating what we’ve already said? That would be more useful.

I'll go on...but your refusal to acknowledge any of your mistakes on this thread (you're speaking in general - that's convenient) is comical.

We'll go back to when I said your criteria of proof (if you ask someone how they know something you are asking for proof - in general i guess) does not include the eternal person and my entire basis for reason is the eternal person.

I would refer you to the "opposite humans" topic. I see your view of people who have died have served their purpose as being without purpose. I see your definition of human purpose as having no purpose. I understand what you and Cephus and K9 are saying. I simply don't see the point.

I understand what you think about someone believing in something other than this reality even though they can't know it like they know this reality.

What you need to understand is I think you are as nuts as I am. I cannot fathom how you can be totally disconnected from eternity. That the evidence doesn't overwhelm you. I have to attribute it to either you are not an eternal being or you simply do not need to know your connection

You have nothing to prove to me...and i obviously cannot prove eternity to someone who is not linked or does not want to be linked to it.

For me, reason should be enough. The only real reason has to be perfect. Anything can be. Except for real reason. Real reason isolates the real answer which then obliterates the anything can be.

Perfect reason is you being eternal. Anything other is any reason. I understand you have a reason. You can come up with millions of reasons. I would suggest any reason is unreasonable except for the real reason.

I know the only real reason you can ever come up with is eternal. How do I know? Easy. It's the only thing that can be known. All the rest is anything.
