I home-schooled my son for several years, and got him way ahead of his public school class....he got
the Presidential Honours Certificate sent to his school, given him at his high school graduation,
for having graduated in the Top 5% of The Entire United States Graduating lass of 2006. He had one
of the highest S.A.T.s in the USA.
Home-schooling? I gave my son a definite edge academically, before I enrolled him into public
school for socialization his last few years there. Young people need some socialization.
I have a stack of academic achievement awards from my son's school years.
His freshman year in school, I got an invitation from the Claes Nobel peace prize family, asking my
son to join their academic club for specially scholastically achieving students, Honours
Society....
He attends college full-time, and works a job part time.
He is taking Engineering.

Most kids who are homeschooled are getting a much more superior education than most of those who
attend government schools. We would see this plainly if it weren’t for the federal government
being too afraid to keep up with our test scores.
SGPGTD = some group of people got together and decided. Decided what you ask? Well “they”
whomever “they” is, decided that certain things MUST be learned at a certain age, not sooner,
not later. No matter how advanced or behind a child is – what matters is the “standards” that
government school advocates think are the one and only means of educating. Homeschoolers tend to be
doing a fine job without the need for those words-on-paper a/k/a “standards”. Combined with
“political correctness”, it’s the “standards” and the likes of “No Child Left Behind”
which has led to the sad state of public education in America. The standards are so low in the
South that its no wonder we have schools who will lower standards just to ensure the abilities of
their athletes. A homeschool Mom’s standards are way, way higher. (She is often not the religious
nut that clueless people claim she is either.) Top that off with the fact that the majority of us
know the true value of Art, Music and PE and would never dream of cutting these classes due to lack
of funds. We can treat our children like the individuals they are. They will never be just one of
the masses who may or may not *get-it* before moving onto the next concept. A homeschool parent
KNOWS when the child doesn’t “get it”. That is why *I* am the one who is best suited to teach
my child – NOT SGPGTD.
Children in traditional government schools do not get to learn a lot of History because certain
parts of it are not in-line with what SGPGTD so school children miss a whole lot of truths. School
children are often bounced around from city to city, district to district and try as they may,
SGPGTD can not give children a good foundation in Science or History in the elementary schools
because of the jumping around only offering bits and pieces of each subject at different
times/years. History should be taught chronologically, not in bits and pieces. There is no pattern
for the purpose of trying to reason the *why’s* of what those people did and what compelled them
to do things the way they did them back then. Those pieces are like a puzzle which never gets
completed.
Because of money and liability issues, school children miss out on a lot of Science as well. A good
homeschool parent will ensure that her child has access to labs and museums which offer a lot of
hands-on learning not found in some school building due to funding issues. Of course, schools do
get the occasional field trip but it’s rushed and limited to what driving distance and time
restraints will allow for. A homeschooled child often makes learning a part of his/her family
vacations. We take hikes in the mountains to learn about different plants and animals. We have
over-night field trips to watch nocturnal animals with night-vision glasses at the zoo. We have
evening field trips to view the stars using “real” telescopes.
So people please – when you feel the urge to use the word “real” in regards to homeschool –
don’t! It just shows lack of forethought. |

I was homeschooled for most of my education and I can tell you these things, K9:
1. No way! Most of my teachers when I was in school plowed on with the curriculum no matter whether
a student was ahead of it (hint, hint) or falling behind. We didn't learn anything that wasn't on
our standardized tests either. It sucked, because we didn't learn science or history or anything.
2. Homeschoolers socialize! I had more friends when I homeschooled than I EVER did in school, and
they were better friends, too. Homeschooling groups are everywhere now and they do stuff all the
time. Socializing is TOTALLY not an issue for almost any homeschooler and I've never met a single
anti-social homeschooler. In fact, any anti-social people I've met went to school!
3. Most school districts now will give their books and lend equipment to homeschoolers (books for
individuals and equipment for classes).
About classes: Many homeschooling parents will give classes to other homeschoolers and these
students also can learn at their own pace. So many of us go to college earlier and we don't have
'intellectual issues'. Most homeschoolers are smarter and more concerned about IMPORTANT things
(i.e. Politics, world events, the environment) than public school kids. Also, children with special
needs can get more attention than in a class. We don't get into as much trouble either (ex. Drugs,
drinking, premature sexual activity, etc.) and you'll find the suicide rate amongst homeschoolers
much lower than amongst public school kids. Schools also force their opinions on kids (ex. The Food
Pyramid and other 'nutritional' materials, often donated by special interest groups). It really
isn't right. And you know who was homeschooled? John Q. Adams, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson,
James Madison, William H. Harrison, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Grover
Cleveland, James Garfield, John Adams, Andrew Jackson, John Tyler, Benjamin Franklin, and FDR. In
many schools including Ivy League Universities, homeschoolers are actually more likely to be
accepted than public schoolers. They tend to have higher test scores, they tend to have more
extracurricular activities, and finally, they tend to have fewer problems with transcripts. Many
homeschoolers move on to college for better things. In fact, here is a link to a list of famous
homeschoolers
If anyone has a problem they see with homeschooling I have not addressed above, please, bring it to
my attention. |

Kids like myself sometimes need the comfort of home, not the pressure of public school life.
(no, I'm not home schooled, but i wish i was.) |

I'd rather learn at my house than go to school and be uncomfortable so homeschooling is better than
public schools! |
