Calling someone a Christian can be an insult if they aren't and choose to view it as an insult.
Personally being called Christian or a Gypsy would not insult me though I am neither. But the
gypsies were viewed as thieves and grifters, and their ways were thought to be unclean and wanton by
bigoted villagers who townspeople who bought their wares and services with one hand yet persecuted
them with the other. To be fair they kept themselves always separate from others which always
propagate fear and they weren’t particularly above a con job or a little thieving. |
