I think they are indeed needed for they help keep the quality of lesser products from getting worse. If you ever take a look at the name brands you will see that they are of better quality. I would rather spend $50 on a pair of jeans that will last 5 years than to buy 5 pair of $20 jeans over the same time.

How dare anyone try to say that quality is not a important as shopping at k-mart for some 2nd rate product. My mother took a college course a few years back on consumer education, and I learned that there are products called 2nd rate products. These are the ones sold at Wal-Mart, Family Dollar, K-Mart, Marshall's, and may others. First Rate products are the ones sold by Target, A&F, AE, The Gap, Banana Republic, Urban Outfitters, to name a few. Being fourteen does not stop me from being an educated consumer. For example Wal-Mart uses old 80's brands that were bad quality and keeps them in business to make a million off of some cheap sweats. Target uses quality manufacturing to make clothes designed by real life designers from the fashion epicenters around the world.

For the company that has the market share, yes.
That's why they call it brand. Branding does what it is intended to do, brand the company in your brain. So when you think of a athletic shoe, you naturally think of Nike. When you think of Diapers you think of Pampers even if you don't buy pampers. That is why they continue to advertise even when they don't need to. You think of a cola, you think, Coke, not a cola and you may not even drink Coke.

I myself wear a lot of those brands, and while I don't think there NEEDED I would miss them if they left

Okay, you wont understand this because i collect top of the line name brand jeans, but yes, I think that if the labels were not there the items i select i would still purchase because they are more of a stable classic value in fabric content best quality Japanese and Italian finishes and weaves.
Not sweat-shop human-rights violations in productions.

I'm sorry and no offense to anyone who only wears brand names but that would take a stuck up rich spoiled brat to NEED name brand clothes

No it would not. Most "stuck up rich brats" are educated consumers that look at everything they buy like me, most 14 year olds that is. Coming from a rich neighborhood or a poor neighborhood people will trust what they have instilled their faith in quality in whether that be Abercrombie or K-Mart.

I think it's stupid to pay for expensive clothing. I wouldn't buy a $50 pair of jeans to save my life, i would rather go nude. But i could see how they are important, but economically only. They do help our economy by preying on stupid teens who think it's cool to have expensive clothes.

Just get me a $15 dollar shirt and a $15 dollar pair of shorts and I'm good for the day.

Many cheaper clothes are available for the same quality. Brand names only give a sense of psychological superiority, a sense of status, a watered down equivalent of a caste system or rigid social classes, which ultimately hurts the society. That being said, we cannot force people to not buy brand names, we can simply state our opposition by not buying ourselves.
