Yes the oldest should take more responsibility. |

It's probably impossible for parents (of my generation) to have seen their children as individual
people with their own strengths & weaknesses. Maybe parents today aren't able to see it either.
I'm the oldest; growing up I always heard how I got to do "everything "& they didn't get to do
"anything". I was the responsible one who had to be home after school to watch over my siblings...if
they got a chance to do something with their friends, they were free to do so....if I got a chance
to do something, I still had to stay home, make supper, etc. (not by choice!)
The examples could go on & on.
Being the oldest can be very over-rated. I think it's a generalization that the oldest "always" get
the best of everything.
Some families have one child that they favor over all the others, for whatever reason. Maybe it
always seems like the oldest (if it's not you)... |

Are you kidding me? The youngest always gets his/her way! The oldest is expected to be more
responsible (which they should be, but not so much that they're expected to be saintly) and
adult.
You clearly aren't an oldest child.
I am, and trust me - in most households, the youngest/younger always gets his way. |

Since the oldest has been around longer, the parents are bound to trust them more than the youngest.
The oldest will have more knowledge of the world and so the parents will automatically trust them
more and expect them to look out for their younger brother/sister. |

Um, I'm the oldest in my family and I'm trusted the least.
The 2nd oldest is trusted more in my family.
I think it's just because he's a boy. |

It's because the oldest has more time to prove that they are trust-worthy. That's the way it goes.
The youngest will always live in the older child's shadow. |
