| I really love art, but sometimes i can't help feeling that it isn't useful. Yes, it may look nice and it may have some sort of emotional meaning- but it does it really help anyone?
..... I think may be it should be changed from pointless to useless as grokit pointed out, 'even pointess art has a point' which is totally true. And also i think people are taking this a bit too personally...this is a debate people i am not saying art definalty IS pointless!!!! I am merely asking you what you think!!! |

Art is pointless. However, I do believe that nothing can replace the "feeling you get" when you
deeply enjoy and observe the master pieces that are called art. Unfortunately, it is true that art
does nothing for society, and is just a waste of an artists time. |

I will take the Devil's Advocate side on this one.
(Because, I was a 4.0 GPA Fine Arts Student all through school.)
That is my disclaimer;-).......ok now:
Yes, Art is worthless because of the following reasons:
1. Art is the pen on the paper of the Soul Of All Humanity.
2. Art shows the UGLINESS in said souls ;-)
and we all know how much we groove-on ugly-souls;-)
3. Art depicts reality in a way no other avenue is possible to
Human Beings: So, we get, from art, a perspective which
is unavailable in any other medium of expression of the
Human Condition: We all know how depraved humans are.
So it is like we REALLY WANNA KNOW that SH!t, huh? ;-)
4. Like the poet Keats said:
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever: Its loveliness increases;
it will never pass into nothingness; but will keep a bower
quiet for us,and a sleep full of sweet dreams, and health".
And we know how much we despise all such observations
by lovely loving wonder-filled-souls who with their pens and papers, or with their painter's tray
and easel, portray for
our wondering eyes, and bursting hearts with beauty,
all that we long and live for as eternal souls which are yet also, mortal and subject to decay death
and depravity, and go mourning one day at a time, to our graves.
Art lifts us up, if yet temporarily, above all that, for a brief yet Inspired View of The
Eternal.
Yes, I agree: Art is worthless.
There is no future in any of that, just as Humans have no future or any hope anyway on this
PRACTICAL REALISTIC EARTH;-)

Art is such as broad subject that you cant possibly say that all types of art or pointless. |

It's not pointless at all (yet, it's also not centrally important either). It has it's place.
The symbolic thoughts and imagery of art with cave men is thought to have been key to our
sociocultural development and brain evolution. And functional items like pottery, rugs, clothing,
weapons, hunting tools, were often themselves art. And you can say art recorded and punctuated
every major historical cultural development among all the peoples around the world. Also art is a
safety valve which releases the emotions of the artist as well as many of the viewers. And of
course it is simply decorative and that too has value.
Is funding art more important than funding other school subjects? NO. It should get some funding
but understand why it may be cut whereas math or languages classes would not be cut.
Is a career in art smart? Well it can be, but you probably shouldn't quit your day job. Relatively
few artists are financial successes.
Is some abstract or shocking art overrated, maybe even pointless? Yes, some of it is. But, just
because you personally don't appreciate a piece of art doesn't automatically make it pointless. It
still may have value or meaning to the artist and/or to a small segment of the population. |

Art is a way of letting out your emotions, making a statement, or way of telling a story. Art speaks
to everyone and makes impressions on us that could last a life time. |

I disagree absolutely. Art purifies the mind and releases stress, and emotions. Good or bad. It's
good for the soul. It can teach about the past, exhibit the present, and and show feelings of hope
for the future. |

What do you meaning by pointless? Does anything truely have a point in the grand scale. What's the
use of working your whole life if your just going to die? What's the use of stating a theory if a
guy will probably just state a opposite theory against it? |

Art can be used as a tool for getting a message across, from politics to belief. Art can be used to
capture the time at which it was created., art is an artifact. Art isn't useless at all. I know it
isn't a need, but luxury. But if art looks nice on a wall or in the corner of a room, of even
outside, doesn't that mean that it has a positive effect on the environment? And having nice
surroundings is a need. Without we would be deprived. |

Art is just a way to express yourself if you are making it. Other wise its just for amusment to look
at in my opinion. I think that its also used as a status of the amount of money you have. If you
walk into a house with plain walls and then into a house with walls full oof origional paintings I'm
sure you'll be like "wow i like this house way better than that one" only because it has pictures in
it. Art can also can be used as gifts or ways to share yourself with the rest of the world. So i
would say art is totally NOT unless. |

A world without art would fall apart. Without art there would be
no entertainment or pleasure because anything enjoyable can
be art in someone's eyes. Without those things people would
not want to work because all they do it for is to survive which
they can do on there own by hunting for food and stealing tools.
Without workers the world would not progress, the suicide count
will go way up and slowly but surely the whole human race would
become uncivilized barbarians killing each other for fun and eventually die out. Btw, im only 12 and
i came up with this. |

Art is the spice of life, without it sucide would be a major issue among the common masses. You may
not realize it but art is all around you, you can't avoid it and I can't see why you would want to.
