In a sense supporting our troops would legitimize their mission.
By buying oil from terrorists we legitimize the terrorizing that they do. In that case we are
supporting terrorism.
I see that some ways of supporting our troops could lead to supporting their mission, even if it is
unintentional. |

My troops (as the bumper sticker implies) support my right to defend my belief to support their
mission and not support them, which is not how i feel but in deed what they believe in and represent
as they fight this fight misaligned with anything i believe America would wish them to represent...
I support neither my troops nor our mission... I want them back now before they get all kinds of
stories to tell me for the next thirty years... Unless they're still over there by that time... Then
i guess it'd be OK... Except the whole ya know... Whatever is still wrong with that picture... As
long as i have my silly rights |

Absolutely not. You can support someone and still be diametrically opposed to their occupation. (no
pun intended) |

You can support the troops, but do not feel obligated to support the mission. My heart bleeds for
the families worrying about their loved ones over sea.I have talked to sailors, and soldiers on the
front line. I have heard their heart wrenching experiences, and read through their tears when they
explain that they were gone too long, the spouse has left them..I have put many a care package in
the mail for some of the soldiers serving in Iraq and other dangerous locations. They ask for
letters, bathing items, and razors..They chose to serve their country, and i support their
decision.. |

It's perfectly possible to appreciate the courage and sacrifice of a country's soldiers without
endorsing the folly of the politicians who decided to send them to fight for some foolish cause.
This isn't my point of view but I acknowledge that such a point of view exists.
The whole "Support the Troops" mantra, however, is a form of demagoguery by which virulent
nationalists try and cow decent people into supporting their point of view. Unfortunately, in
America at least, it has proven to be extremely effective. Resisting it requires politicians who
have the moral courage to face down the howling demagogues. Such people are not easy to find. |

That's stupid. I support the work our troops do, I just think they're being asked to do things that
they have no business doing. Just because I support our men and women on the ground doesn't mean I
support the moron in office who sends them off to do his holy errands. |
