In June Of 2008, Spanish Government Passed A Law That Gave Monkeys, Great Apes, Etc, The Right To Protection, This Is Ridiculous.
Monkeys are not people, and do not deserve any rights. This only inhibits that progress of animal research and bio-medical research. The law also protects monkeys from zoos, now weather these are bad roadside zoos or good one like NYC or Toronto is unknown, but the distinction should be clear. Animals cannot be given rights!

Everything alive deserves certain rights. The right of life is one, and humane treatment should be another. In fact, most animals deserve more rights than alot of humans.

Animals deserve a relative degree of humane treatment. Even our domesticated food source animals are covered by law to a certain degree.

Do any wild animals deserve full fledged human rights? No. Do some deserve endangered species protection or other conservation measures? Sure.

I don't know enough about the Spanish law to really take a side. If it's protecting humane treatment then I'm fine with it, if it's banning research then I'm hesitant but still not completely unsympathetic, but if it's approaching human rights for apes and monkeys then I'd be against it. Because our society simply cannot exist if we extend full human rights to animals. It would be the end of major food sources, pets, wool sheering, etc.

 quite peaceful actually, knowing that my view of no rights for animals are saving billions of people through biomedical research. How can you live with yourself knowing that by restriciting this billions of humans will die?
