Immigration Allows Bad Government.
Immigration plugs holes in society which otherwise governments would need to face. The immigrants themselves who come with a use and willingness to work get blamed for the cracks in the society they come to work in. The society should be looking at failings within itself and by it's government. Instead of stealing the cream from other countries, we should be making our own. Would a ban on immigration force our government into improving our own society? Does new Europe ensure bad government and a lazy society for generations?

You make a good point. Look at a country like Japan. They have very low immigration from other countries, they don't support very many corporations other than Japanese ones, they are generally a very self supporting nation. And I think this is the reason why they are so advanced, and have so many intelligent, hard working people.

I can do nothing but totally agree with you.

A question that rarely gets asked is what is happening to Poland when half their skilled workforce come to the UK.

Governments increasingly realize that immigration is necessary for economic prosperity in most western countries, where low birth rates and high life expectancies are creating an ageing population. Both Britain and Poland, for example, have stood to benefit from the fact that anywhere from between 400,000 to one million Poles have moved to the UK to find work since 2004. The British hospitality sector has had great difficulty filling vacant positions; especially the lowest paying ones.

Poland has also benefited from the departure of up to a million of its citizens, since the relative shortage of nannies, cleaners and construction workers has finally started pushing up the outrageously low wages in this former Eastern bloc country.

There is no alternative to immigration. Most governments that tried to replace this policy with pro-natalism failed quite miserably.

Interesting take MacK. But in England we have 3 Million people of working age out of work. (not just on the dole, just not working) Does that not entirely underline the point that is made here.

The Poles here are largely decent, well educated and hard working. I would guess (and only guess) that, similar to those Brits working in Aus, they are the cream of the nation. Poland can only suffer without them there. Also rise in wages = inflation = lack of economic competition in exporting so it is not as simple as you make it sound.
