I would argue that imagination is the key to knowledge......imagination creates knew ideas and theories that later, if prevail, create more knowledge....they basically feed off each other

Imagination is so much more important than knowledge because without it the most important scientists would have no idea what sorts of things to experiment on! How can anyone do anything without imagination?

PS plz answer this question because i have no idea what life would be like without imagination!

It takes a lot of knowledge to have imagination though. Doesn't it? Yes, they wouldn't know all this stuff without imagination but knowledge backs there imagination up, making the things scientists do work. Think about it..

People come up with their knowledge from imagination...like atoms no one can prove it though it is common knowledge

Well, very hard question.
I would be somewhere in between.

I think it is very important to have knowledge, as it is the basis which you need for whatever you want to do.

But you also need a motivation and a strong will to succeed.

I agree that we would be nowhere if nobody had imagination, but I would still prefer clicking option "neutral" if there was any...

This topic reminded me of one good quote: "Some men see things as they are and say why.
I dream things that never were and say why not."
Robert Kennedy

now I see that the people who went "against" have similar arguments as I do.

And yet we chose a little bit different options. - interesting to think about that... :)
Maybe it is because I try to live up to that quote.

Without imagination we wouldn't have any knowledge.

Not entirely true. There are many facts that are strictly fact and not imaginative in any way. The knowledge of fact is different than imagination. I do agree that imagination is a part of gaining knowledge, but not the only way to have knowledge of something, unless that something is on the more creative side and less on the factual side.

Ask a jazz musician. When one plays, he doesn't just play random notes; he's playing from years of experience of learning and studying other people's work and practicing. The same is true of authors of both fiction and non-fiction, or any other job that requires creativity.

You can't carve stone if you don't know how to use a chisel, no matter how well you can visualize why you're trying to do.

No because it takes a good amount of knowledge to have a good imagination. How many fictional authors do you know that are stupid?

I fully respect the value of imagination but it's just not accurate to say it is "more important than knowledge". Neither concept is sufficient by itself to survive. There are outright crazy people overflowing with imagination who otherwise have no idea how to take care of themselves. Likewise there are people who just do what they were told and taught all there life and essentially use no imagination at all yet they survive and thrive. Really a human needs a mix of both.

Saying imagination is more important than knowledge is like saying gourmet cuisine is more important to know than basic cooking skills. And yes, there did have to be somebody one upon a time who first tasted a food or devised a recipe, but that doesn't mean that fist discovery is more important than the basic act of cooking and eating millions will do to survive. Plus eventually that creative discovery will be so commonplace it is long forgotten as anything creative and will simply be called knowledge. In fact in essence you're saying that new recent imagination is more important than older imagination.
