I am white. I don't think i would want to be any other race. |

I have no way of knowing what your comment is as what everyone thinks about race....surely some
darker races love being that.
I don't think Oprah hates being black, at least she doesn't seem to dis-embrace her race.
I am as white a a human can get. I have always loved my skin. I would not want to be anything but
what I was born.
Maybe that's a self-esteem issue not a race issue?? |

I think that this is a question for people and they are not capable of total honesty in their
response. I feel you are correct Moreno, and I am fairly certain of this.
There is nothing wrong with being honest in this, and sometimes the truth is very hard to take. I
am with Latin people a lot. I find them very attractive, but in their own society they value the
whiter skin far more than darker skin. All of your points are correct, but we don't like to believe
them as being true. People would rather live in their denial about who they are than confront the
truths of their own biases and motives.
At Harvard University they have a test for racism. In this test they are shown photos and pictures
and emotional responses are measured. Every single person came out with racism in their
subconscious. Alan Alda, not exactly a reactionary conservative, took the test and he was shocked
to see the level of racism that existed within himself.
It is true that there is a subconscious, if not very conscious amount of white bias in almost all
people. I don't like it, but it is the truth. |

I think this is undoubtedly true. You see it in the use of skin-whitening creams for black people.
Michael Jackson is arguably the most tragic example of it where he destroyed his own appearance by
going through multiple surgeries in an attempt to look whiter, although he claimed afterwards it was
the result of some disease.
Of course, people can't really change their race so we can never know that for sure. They can,
however, change popular representations of themselves in artificial media. One thing that struck me
after playing Japanese video games was that the characters depicted in them didn't really look
Japanese. They had more of a Western appearance, even when the character had some mini-biography
saying he or she was Japanese. Also, if you look at the popularity of Western, white models in
Japan, that says something too about their desired self-image. |

Everyone always wants to be someone different. It does not matter what the race is. If everyone was
white, they would be crying to be black, Asian, Hispanic, or another race. People are never
satisfied. People should learn to be happy with themselves and quit worrying about what other people
think. If we would put as much effort into running the world peacefully as we put into the way we
look, the world would be a peaceful place to live. All races want to be someone else, that will
never end. Just be satisfied with who you are and you will live a much happier life. |

This is a retarded post... Whites in America have an advantage due to having the majority of
people... Yet I look at many people of all races and see wonderful attributes.... Brought on by
their race and culture... This debate seems almost narcisistic if your trying to state that most
people would opt to be white... I am white but my husband is not...he loves certain attributes I
have...but also loves attributes of people in his race and other races and vice versa.... |

One thing I have learned is mixing race makes for healthier kids.
I don't think what you say is true moreno. |

No. I am an wonderful African-American young teen...well preteen, and I appreciate myself as well as
my race. I mean you think about it. WHY are white people ( not being racist) wanting plumper
lips....which black people in general already have. And WHY are white people ( again not being
racist) trying to get DARKER with tans...which again African-American people already are a darker
tone that whites. Think about this for a second. Oh and we straighten our hair so that we won't have
NAPPY hair. White people have straight and curly and frizzy hair. African-American's have usually
nappy hair. WE want to have straighter hair because we want to be able to comb our hair without
pulling out our hair because of the napps! *taking another thought about this* |

White people get tans, have adopted black culture in music, dance and dress.
I am not going to yell racist at you, I think it is a fair question and an honest opinion. I just
disagree. My mum and wife continually tell me I should have been born a black man. |

I'm English/Scotish with some Native American some where in there, to my knowledge. I've always
liked the asian look, especially Korean and Indian look, I think Asians are often really beautiful
people. I also like Native Americans, pure-blooded Native Americans are rare today. |

I would personally pick a Latina race!

It is my belief that before we "enter" the fetus, we "pick" our mother and father for the
experience. How we handle it when we're here is another thing. It's society today, that judges all
for the way a person looks, thinks, acts. |

I don't like these types of hypothetical statements. They are problematic in that they are
unrealistic because they circumvent the entire developmental process a child goes through mentally
from birth to adulthood, supposing that a child would even be able to make such a decision. Its just
not feasible. I know its a social debate, but even then it just serves as a source of racial
tension. I hate to say it, but it sounds an awful lot like white supremacist sentiment. Sure, we
should be open about race, but this is not the type of discussion we should be having. We need not
delve into contentious inferences made on poorly gathered evidence. |
