There is no argument FOR social security. Just justifications promoting a socialist agenda.
Some people will always believe that the gov't owes them or that they're entitled to ...whatever.
Very defeated and sad group people. |

In fact we are in the middle of the largest baby boom since THE baby boom. Right now it is estimated
we would have to have a complete economic collapse that lasted for 15 to 20 years to cause the
social security system to completely fail, in which case social security will be the least of our
problems. |

Fiscally solvent? HAVE YOU NOT BEEN LISTENING TO THE NEWS? Nancy Pelosi has said that the social
security is fine also. Of course in the next breath she said benefits might have to be reduced to
80% of what was expected. Sound fiscally solvent? Instead of throwing out statements you can't back
up or using the word "tweaks" instead of solid ideas, why not do some research and you will see why
I say this. Were those statements supposed to be rebuttals? Tell me WHY it is fiscally solvent.
The point about people dying early is a moot point. That was always the case. That does bring up an
ummm...incongruity of the system- Pay all those years, die the day before you retire, and "poof", if
no survivors, the money is gone. Sound "fair" Grokit?
P.S. What does red state/blue state got to do with this? This is not a debate about "who cares more"
or "who pays more". It's about what I stated in the debate. |

Social Security is the only fiscally-solvent institution left in the U.S., and that is what
infuriates conservatives that want to dissolve it.
As far as you "example" goes, it is totally negated by the fact that many people that paid into the
system for decades, only to die before they collected any benefits.
A few small tweaks here and there and it will even accommodate the baby boomers, as long as our
economy can contain unemployment.
This debate reminds me for some reason of the fact that the red states are the most against public
assistance, yet they pay the least in taxes, and receive the most benefits; that's why they are
called the "welfare states".
Blue states, on the other hand, pay the most in taxes, receive the least benefits, yet they are
still ironically in favor of supporting the red welfare states.
Quite the incongruity, eh Bugman? |
