If God Is Everywhere, You Don't Have To Go To Church To Worship
It just seems odd that an all knowing and all seeing entity would require you to go to a specific building to talk to him or her. If he/she is everywhere why do churches exist?

I agree that God is everywhere and that you don't have to go to church or where ever you go to because you can worship at home. It's just better to be at church or where ever you go to.

Ah Touché, but one problem, he doesn't exist!

There is nothing in the New Testament that urges Christians to go to "a specific building" to worship Him. All that we see in the New Testament is groups of believers coming together to worship in homes or in fact, any place that they could. The only thing that the NT urges, is that Christians continue to meet. Why? To encourage one another, to worship, to study the Bible, etc. The Psalms are quite clear that God can be worshipped even in your bed, when you wake up in the morning, by yourself, or with others.

No one says you have to go to church. Some just like to. The music is always a real plus. If preacher is any good of a speaker, then there is some learning as a added bonus also;-)

I agree. If he is everywhere it is not like there is more of his spirit in some type of building.

No, no one and no thing or system has ever
proved that humans have to "worship" God.
God worshiping was started by paganist.
Jesus, according to the new testament, taught
people about fellowship. He honored God
because that's how he was brought up, but
he taught people to honor God by honoring
each other, those where his new commandments. Do churches really go out and fellowship in their own community?

Haha! Very interesting question! I agree, you can pray if you want to before bed (or any time for that matter), and if you attend a Catholic school (like yours truly), the chapel is always open if you wish to pray or contemplate.

Historically, the vast majority of religions were based on animism, the worship of natural objects and phenomena. Rocks, trees, rivers, and animals were all considered sacred and life-giving and honored as such.
Then, somewhere along the way, people began to codify religion and produce texts of dogma that dictated moral, philosophical, and lifestyle rules. Worship had to be conducted in temples or vast cathedrals while participants were dressed in special, fancy clothes. Rich people were allowed to buy their way into heaven.
Many people now feel very uncomfortable with organized religion. They consider themselves spiritual people, but churches per se have become so corrupt and money-hungry, they are a turn-off.
Every Sunday, I do something outside. I commune with “God” on my long walks, and meditate on many things; some would call this prayer. If that isn’t honoring a spiritual being on His/Her holy day, I don’t know what is.

That does in no way answer the question posed. Stop spouting rhetoric and think about it.

It does actually say in the bible somewhere (can remember exact quote) said by Jesus that a persons religion should be a private matter to be practiced privately.

I've notice you write a lot of negative messages about certain things. Here's the deal about God, you can worship the Lord anywhere, anytime, AND GOD HEARS YOU but most priest, preachers believe that man isn't strong enough to withstand the devil and his EVIL powers so they want you to attend Church to keep you STRONG in the word of the Lord, you can read your bible anywhere, but being around other Christians gives you strength and wisdom. So go to Church, get saved and except the lord into your Heart and enough with these negative remarks..keep an open mind, Jesus Loves you.

He is indeed everywhere. However, going to a church strengthens your faith by being with fellow believers and the pastor, who is the faith leader.

It is unsettling, to say the least, to imagine that the Almighty has His eye fixed on me when, for example, I'm straining on a toilet. Yet the doctrine of God's ubiquity forces us to conceive of Him as a celestial voyeur with innumerable prying eyes. It is, like most other religious doctrines, utterly revolting.

In agreeing I'd have to disagree ..

It's easy to touch god or have those moments of contemplation or meditation you can do that on your own, or you can do it with others who are in to the same thing.. They're 2 different vibes but both are completely valid and something good to do.

What gets me is the huge number of people who go to church on a Sunday, show face, be seen in the community as being goodly .. And are completely horrid little humans every other day of the week.. That's not living with a sense of god but are manipulative liars.

This depends on your denomination. If you are a Roman Catholic, you are required to attend church on a regular basis. The Church points to the Third Commandment which calls on Christians to "remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy." Further, the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) maintains that Sunday is "observed as the foremost holy day of obligation in the universal Church." According to Catholic tradition, however, you are not required to fulfil your Sabbath obligation on a Sunday. Instead, you may attend mass on Saturday afternoon. Most parishes do offer mass on Saturdays, usually around 4:30pm.

According to Catholic teaching, God is everywhere, although He is most present in those areas where there is the greatest suffering. God is strongly present where people suffer social injustice, persecution of all kinds and any discrimination. He is present among those who have been let down or hurt by the numerous grave sins and deep flaws of the Church, and the countless failures of individual Christians.

It is great if you can develop your faith outside the confines of Sunday mass or service and in your own unique way. Yet if you are a Catholic, there is still an expectation that you take part as an active member of this faith community, no matter how disappointing, inadequate or flawed it may be.

Keeping Sabbath and a holy day can be done from anywhere, it still does not necessitate going to church. If your church tells you to go to church because that is the way to communicate with god it is lying to you.

I don't believe that if you have a good relationship with god church is necessary. Will he or she not listen to you if you do not attend? Will your prayers not be answered unless they are asked inside of one of these temples? Please someone explain this phenomenon to me.

Do the priests read from a different version of the Bible or something?
