If Evolution Is True Then Life Has No Value.
If evolution is true then we are all apart of the animal kingdom and our lives have no value. So who defines morality? Who defines evil?

Your life has no value. My life has no value. My dog's life has no value. Individuals are expendable. The universe could consist of fire and rocks and no copulating creatures at all. That would then be the reality.

Or are you using the word "value" to mean "moral principles?" You then imply that all other creatures of the animal kingdom are immoral. Kind of a harsh judgement on your loving Labrador.

If Evolution in this debate refers to Darwinian evolution, and if that is taken to mean the belief that all organisms descended from a common ancestor through a series of small random mutations, and that by implication, there is no God, only material things, and when one dies one goes to nothingness, then I partially agree with this comment. I would like to modify it slightly:

LIfe still has value, but has no meaning or purpose.

If one believes in the Darwinian evolution in the first paragraph, what would be the logical consequences of those beliefs? Given our understanding of ourselves and others, wouldn't such a person:

1) Devote every minute of his life to pleasure, both sensual (sex, eating, etc.) and refined (popularity, wealth, etc.)?

2) Show compassion to others, but only as much as needed to make a good impression. (It's unpleasant to feel that others believe you're selfish.)

3) Never stand-up for any issue if it puts him at risk of life or limb. (the military, peace corps, and rescue work are definitely not options.)

4) Never calling anything inherently good or evil, and not stand up for either.

Please explain why life has any meaning other than the pursuit of pleasures in all of its forms?

Bonus Question:
Did matter and the laws of physics have a beginning, or did they always exist? Explain your answer scientifically.

3) When one gets sick and old and finds no pleasures, kill oneself.

I'll try for ya....Life has an ultimate meaning if you believe in life after death because all the suffering and pain that we go through was to bring you a very unique character, that's everlasting and merciful ( not God, but in His image and unique), not just dead and worm food, fodder for the next plant (say, there's your ultimate meaning in life, now you can die happy) Bonus question: The Bible doesn't say that things weren't started by the big bang, It doesn't say How He created things at all.....That's why you guys can argue so much, The Bible mentions creation, it's not about creation, it's about you. Your second #3 Suicide, your ultimate self centered act of a coward. Screw everyone else who loves me and their feeling, I want this.....

Life is its own value. Sets its own worthiness.

Why do we suddenly have no value because we are part of the animal kingdom? We're the only rational animals that are concerned with ethics. We have value, even with evolution.

We are still animals whether we evolve or not. Just because we are the most dominant species does not make us not animals. But life still has value because we know we came from a lower form of life and are one of the most successful (if not the most) species on the planet.

That may well be the single most pecimistic view i've ever heard !

Life has the same amount of meaning however you believe we reached this point but its my veiw that there is no right answer to the question of what is the meaning of life and you must find your own meaning.

So if I believe my own meaning in life is to take life it's ok, according to your statement.

Not true, life has its own value. The pleasure you receive and give to others around you by your actions. It is just a ride, enjoy it and help others do the same along the way.

This is reason enough. If you are only doing what you do out of fear for the afterlife then that makes you kind of shallow in my opinion.

Its easy for those to say other living beings have have no value yet angered that its probably the same for humans. When you die why do you fear not being conscious of anything? Imagine being in a deep sleep. Do you care? You don't even know until its time to wake up....In this case you won't. What is the big deal? That's why the death penalty is actually a joke. Its not really a punishment.

You are right. So murder shouldn't be against the law either.

Evolution is a process. It does not remove the value or the sanctity that you may place on life. It merely explains it as how it came to be. It does not put any value on it. It does not ascribe any meaning, or lack of meaning. If you wish to place a very special value on life, as i do, then you should not let the process in which it came to be deter you.

So you admit everyone's definition of value is different. So if I define human life's value as zero, it's ok to kill whom I please.

Evil is developed through evolution it is not defined my someone. When you look at good then there would be only good in the world then there wouldn't be good it would just be as everything is but without evil there can be no good.

You just contradicted your self, you admit without evil you can't have good. So if there is a moral law, there has to be a moral law giver. Who is that?
