Good point. Or was the intention for them to discover strong cider, therefore not technically eating
it at all? |

Interesting and thought provoking topic. We know that whatever eating the forbidden fruit was
ultimately about, it led almost immediately to other painful sins, such as timidity, lying, secrecy,
shame, blame, fear, etc. Etc.; within just a few verses in the Bible......
So, it certainly led to negative consequence for Adam and Eve and according to the story all the
rest of us.
Perhaps when God made man in his image, with the ability to reason, be self aware, make moral
choices, create, and so forth; that comes with a bit of God's own identity of being the supreme
being in all of creation and no one tells me what to do. Adam and Eve may have had a bit of
this---wanting to be the supreme being in their own lives, so to speak (as we all do, even though
we really know that God is God and we are not); and, so it seems it probably was bound to happen,
sooner or later. Seems sort of logical consequences of making man in His Image. Really being
hypothetical here, and probably way off base. |

Definitely. Look at Adam. The serpent didnt trick him. The serpent tricked Eve. Adam did it
knowing he was doing wrong. Eating the "apple" was just a way for God to show us that we are
sinful. Just like when God gave us the "Law". He didnt do it to keep us from doing whatever we
please, but to show us that we are sinful by nature.
Look at Cain and Able. God had never told them "thou shalt not murder". The 10 commandments didnt
come until after the flood. But when Cain killed Able he knew he had done wrong. His relatives
knew it also because Cain asked God to protect him from them.
And God didnt issue His laws until sometime after the flood. Yet, he destroyed the earth because
the people had become so corrupt.
My point is this....its not the apple eating or the commandment breaking that makes us fall short of
Gods standards. Its the simple fact that we are not God. Thats what God is trying to teach us. |

Exactly, because it was what established to whole point of man being tainted as being born in Sin. |

I would have preferred some odds so I could post on the other side. Lol
I would bet you are correct with the title but I wouldn't go all in. The longer they stayed, the
more they would have come to know God. It's possible they would have gotten past the point of
falling prey to their own reasoning.
While no matter what transpires, it is God's perfect plan to bring other than perfect into perfect,
to say that no matter what transpires is God's intention would seem limited by our perspective.
Why put it there?
What if the very notion of something other could have been enough? What if they would have learned
without taking the plunge?
One of the root questions (if not THE root question) is why didn't God make us all in Heaven? One of
the first answers to that question is, because we wouldn't be in the image of God. Whatever it is
that makes us the individuals we are. We would be a part of the sum.
I believe the very notion of other is what caused Satan and the other angels to be cast out of
Heaven and I wonder if the very notion of other could have been enough to complete the evolution
that was planned for Adam and Eve. |

We dont know that but its fun to consider. But it may not be an apple. It was 'forbidden'. |

So that people like us can reason why we can have free thinking and discover God in the most
painful, arrogant, ruthless, angry, but wonderful way.

Nah, heck I've met suburbanites who have lived near Boston with their families for generations and
never ever gone into certain popular neighborhoods or businesses. Proximity to something doesn't
mean eventually you're going to try it. |

I disagree finschie old bean, and I quote...
Eve: ''But who taught you to speak?''
The Serpent: ''You and Adam. I have crept through the grass, and hidden, and listened to you. I am
the most subtle of all creatures of the field, [And I certainly know you know about fields finschie
old bean....;-)] I can talk of many things. I am very wise. It was I who whispered the word to you
that you did not know - DEAD - DEATH, DIE. |

And if no one told Adam and Eve the fruit was off was limits, if they ate it, it would not have
counted. So, it was not eating the physical piece of fruit that was the sin because if they had
sinned by eating the fruit, they would have been gone from the garden immediately, because God
cannot be for one second in the presence of sin. But God did not expel them until a lame and false
explanation had been given, blaming the other and blaming God. It was lying to God that got
them thrown out. If at least one of them had just said the simple, non-accusatory truth, "The devil
fooled me and I ate," maybe they would have been permitted to stay. Remember that the term "fruit"
can also mean the result of something.
Can you find the sting in what I have written? |

Nice hypothetical question, but I'm afraid I have to disagree.
Unfortunately I don't think that Adam and Eve had proper free will, and were very easily swayed, so
if no one pointed out that this fruit was tasty they probably wouldn't have eaten it.
Think of it like some popular teenage girls.
Some of them are very easily swayed by things like fashion designers.
I don't mean to generalize, but I think that unless someone told them to do it they wouldn't.
They were basically mindless sheep, and God was their shepard.
That's where the phrase really comes from :) |
