Identity Theft Should Have National Laws Against It And With Potent Punishments
The fast growing crime in the US and globally is identity theft - IDs, credit cards, etc. If you're a victim it is nearly impossible to track down the culprits, get out of debt you didn't ask for, restore your name, and punish the perpetrators. There needs to be real teeth in legislation to combat this problem. And if they can't stop the crime itself then they need to legally ensure we won't have to pay back the fraudulent bills or fight to get our credit and names back.

I agree it took my mother in law several years fighting to not have to pay back what they stole from her and her credit score has gone way down and her credit history was ruined. The government must find a way to stop this.

The prisons are so filled up with people that have multi-drug offenses that they do not have enough room for any more people.

Maybe instead of locking them up they can fine them and/or garnish their wages to pay back the people they stole from. Or maybe they can work it off doing hard labor.

I agree, The government needs to address these severe issues, this is happening all to commonly. Perhaps if there was a terrible, or unfair punishment those greedy criminals will deteriorate in number.

Amazingly no. At work in fact they hired a special vendor as part of Benefits and they're to provide total assistance in monitoring theft, fighting theft, etc., but they give extensive stats and legal review in a presentation up front and the situation is really grim. Getting your credit card number stolen is one thing, you might get out of it with your card company (or not), but getting your actual ID stolen is catastrophic. It's a tremendous uphill battle. And there really are people who lose absolutely everything.
