| Making Blanket Laws Based On Emotional Reactions Is A Bad Idea |
| I'm sick of people seeing something they don't like, then deciding there should be a law to make sure others fall inside the criteria of how they believe the world "should" be. We've got plenty of laws. If you don't like something, but it's not hurting anyone, maybe you should either open your mind a little, or stick your head in the sand, because guess what...everyone is different, and thank goodness! |

I to am sick of Knee Jerk Reactions.
Another one is we will make sure this never happens again.
Usually it is because people can't admit they have done a poor job of something or other. |

People are weak minded they like to consider how the world should be and ignore how it is. Take
global warming for example: Humans think that the world would run better with a fuel other then oil
but at the same time are to unwilling to do anything to change from oil to another fuel source. For
every rule there are a few exceptions: Al Gore, big organizations; which only do something because
it costs them extra money to deal with the increasing gas prices; and some scientists. Heck by
wasting time writing this i could have been out helping the world so I'm a weakminded idiot also. |

I agree! The fact that we are all individuals with different sets of beliefs and different criteria
of what is right and wrong demands a higher degree of emotional tolerance towards others. We have to
learn how to respect the things other people believe in and consider important.
There are so many factors that play a role in making us different including education, culture,
family upbringing and religious obligations etc. What is funny is that while we fail to give respect
we expect others to respect us and understand where we are coming from. If you want to be respected
you will have to learn to give respect first. |

Absolutely, making laws based on emotion or unproven belief or faith is simply ludicrous. Laws need
to be based on facts, then checked against the fundamental freedoms that the United States (assuming
you're talking about the US) was founded upon. |

Well said. A respect for other people's freedom should be at the heart of any democracy. And that
includes the freedom to make mistakes and do stupid or unpleasant things, as long as no one else is
seriously harmed by them.
Without this, there's a danger that democracy turns into mob rule. I feel that the fox hunting ban
in Britain was something similar, for example : An urban majority crudely imposing its will on a
helpless minority.
The United States, with its system of constitutional rights, to some extent creates a bulwark
against this danger. However, it creates other dangers of its own, such as passing the right to make
important decisions into the hands of unelected judges. |

I'm for this. I don't like watching porn for instance, but in no way should that be a reason why it
is banned. I could care less if other people watch it. Why should I care? It has absolutely no
effect on me. Someone making atomic bombs--that has an effect on me. Someone watching certain
images...it should not matter at all. |

Making laws would be best based upon reason and rationality such as the idea that one way to do
things is more beneficial for everyone than done the opposite way, for example.
Laws should be decided upon by merit only. And justice. |
