Humor Is Good For Debating
Many people try to "delete" or "edit" humor out of this site.... And honestly that makes no sense to me. If someone wants to say something funny, why delete it..... Maybe other people enjoy it (when it's not offensive)!

If you can use humor to illistrate a point then it is most certainly good.

Sometimes? If you are SUBTLE as a serpent enough at it?
NO ONE WILL EVER KNOW !!!! *ha ha ha*

Humour is the grease for all pleasant successful human interactions and should never be deleted.

Laughter creates the endorphins.
You can only make endorphins three ways:

1. Good laugh,
2. Good sex,
3. Good exercise/jog/hike.

And do not be offended at me if I use all the humour in here I can get away with ;-)

;-)

Q: Why did the chicken cross the road?

A: To show his girlfriend he had guts!

There, I just supported the cause.

Of course. And, in the process of making someone laugh, you might get your point across better and it will process in that person's mind a little clearer.

Everyone should be able to laugh once and a while other wise you'd just sit there all sad and stuff.

To debate is to express your views and opinions on a particular issue that is being presently discussed. It is a state where there should be a healthy argument and not a verbal fight. Thus if somebody tries to create humor during debating then it is definitely good because that makes the environment friendly but also it is to be kept in mind that the humor must not be offensive to any one. If somebody has got the capability to create humor in a debate without offending his or her opponent then humor is definitely a good thing for debating as it helps in making the situation more casual and not so serious. But again it should be kept in mind that while creating humor one should not deviate from his or her topic, the humorous statement should relate to the topic properly.

I gotta agree here, but be careful with the humor. What someone may think funny, another person may be insulted or just not see the value of the content. Thank goodness we are all made different, we think different..or there would be no debating..How boring that world would be..

I totally agree - pro humor.
Lol I'm sure in a few of my posts people will get a bit angry at my humor, thinking it's an attack - but frankly - I'm just blunt, and if I can add a pinch of irony, with multiple lashings of sarcasm, that's good enough for me lol

It sure lightens things up a lot. It sucks when you are angry when you debate because then you don't have an open mind, and then it makes the other person not have an open mind. It makes you more successful as a debater, too, I think. I don't have much humor in this debate though....

It is good to have, but as has been said, it can be used to distract or evade.

Humour can be used in a debate, but must be included in such a way that it adds to one's credibility and does not hinder the arguments that a debater is trying to make. A mildly sarcastic remark may, for example, help drive home a point in a way that is more entertaining than simply reciting a laundry list of facts and figures. Additionally, a self-depreciating comment can sometimes disarm the most fervent opponent.

The key, however, is to ensure that the humour being used is appropriate to the situation in that it does not detract from the issue being discussed. A humorous one-liner should never detract from the overall point being conveyed, nor should it seem insulting in any way. Rather, the best debate humour is if it can get both sides smiling, at least for a moment.

I do not believe that there is anything wrong with adding humor to debates. However, I do believe that if there is going to be humor in a debate that it should be used appropriately. It should not be for those immature clowns out there who just want to be funny. If the humor directly relates to the debate and is used to make or clarify a point, then it should be okay to use humor when debating. Anyone who uses humor immaturely or out of context on this site or any other debate site should be removed. Debate sites are not places for posting jokes. There are other websites for that are more appropriate for jokes and immature people.

There's nothing wrong with humor in general but it certainly can get in the way of presenting facts and there are certainly people who answer questions that they have no rational response to with humor in an attempt to hide their failed argument.

If done carefully though, there's nothing wrong with it.

I think perhaps a hint of humour may lighten the mood if things get intense but it is rarely really needed. I feel there's a danger it can distract of the issue at hand and it's very annoying when people simply say their view to cram in a 'good laugh'. However if it's just an additional extra which doesn't cause any offence I don't see any harm in it.

Ok let's debate the genocide in Darfur and see how well humor helps you out.

If you want funny, go to a humor website.

This isn't Darfour...... sweety... if it was we wouldn't have computers. Secondly What does that have to do with this argument at all? I think it's called NOTHING! How about you go work for the peace corps or something ok, then you can say whatever you like about Darfour.... It seems 90% of the people on here disagree w/ you.... oh I guess your opinion doesn't even matter.... complain to someone who cares.
