"Humans Are Definitely A Blight On This Planet...
"...Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to another area, and you multiply, and you multiply, until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet." ~ Agent Smith in The Matrix

Humans are effectively a virus.
Or maybe we're an experiment gone wrong.
No one knows.

It appears that you are right. We are making a complete mess of this planet. I have long considered humans in the same way as a virus, just on a larger scale.

Instead of changing to suit the environment, we change it to suit us. I don't know of any other animals that do that, although it is possible that such an organism exists.

Duh. And what verum is suffering from is unyeilding pride and impossible idealism.

I may be, but if i don't have hope in humanity I will have try to change it. I rather have hope then trying to change it. I think we can honestly change , why can't we, were smart enough. Its just a matter if we can overcome our arrogance and selfishness. It only takes a few people to make a difference.

*Sigh*...How can this be a debate when it is based off of zero facts? Oh wait...the Matrix...yeah...that is factual indeed :-/

It is the minds of those who wish ill on their own specie that should be eradicated and defined as a virus.

He's talking about humans in general.
Not each individual human.

Humans constantly shape their environment both intentionally and unintentionally and our shear numbers combined with our technology allow damage surpassing any other living animal.

But, with that said, why is it wrong? Why does a beaver dam diverting a river get the OK but a human dam get condemned? And if beavers had evolved anywhere close to the level we are do you doubt they would be damning all over the place and making a huge mess? Do you doubt eagles on top would drop their stinky bone kills everywhere? Do you doubt buffalo shore to shore would leave an open cow pie cesspool across the plains?

Animals do not "instinctively develop a natural equilibrium with their surrounding environment", the actually fight and kill and expand and breed until they outgrow their food supply and some have to die. The reason humans are not in that same equilibrium is so far we haven't outgrown our food (but we're getting pretty close aren't we?).

Anyway, we're behaving like animals and not much differently from the other animals who would take our place. And it will continue like that until nature, disease, food, or an uberpredator from outer space comes down here and culls our animal heard.

It's not something uniquely ruinous in us. And like any other dominant animal in the planet in the past - we'll eventually get our correction.

problem with that is that nature balances it out in the end. Coyotes eat to many rabbits and they starve to death while the rabbit population increases. Deer population soars and they run out of food and die while the predator population increases. Humans don't suffer these things. We run out of one source of food and go to another. While we destroy the atmosphere, the polar ice caps, and the many animal species.

It makes sense but I don't want to agree at such a horrific statement describing my race, and if we do that it isn't to the extent you say it is. I believe humanity is in for a change, and our virus like properties will deteriorate and our capabilities and potential will be maximized for the good of our world. I can only hope so.

I wish I shared your optimism, Verum. But I agree with whoever said that humans are merely "monkeys with overclocked brains; that explains the instability problems".
