How The Ignorant Religions Fail, Epically At That, To Accept, Or Even Try To Understand, Gay Couples.
Though we may say we've come a long way, having tried to get past racial and sexual discrimination, we have yet to actually conquer any of these. But when I read of a young gay man being shot, a teenager like me, an elderly man like a grandpa, for the mere fact that they like men? It makes me want to disown humanity, who wants to be a member of a race that destroys itself?

I think it's appalling how gays are rejected by some churches - who are supposed to be full of good people! Gay people do not choose to be gay and are often to afraid to tell people they are. 1/10 of people are gay, but I bet you can't name the 1/10 of people that you know to be gay. It is so cruel to them, they shouldn't be scared of letting people know who they are, and imagine their guilt when they hear the church say that they are wrong and evil - it's not even their fault!

Are gay people really genetically like that, or do they simply choose to be gay? I believe that there is a genetic marker that makes people gay, but I don't think this has ever been completely proven. If you ask a hardcore Christian about gays, (which I have, unfortunately) you will realize that most feel that being gay is a lifestyle that can be changed with discipline and prayer. If anyone has ever altered their genetics through prayer successfully, you let me know.

I agree that there are people in the world, especially the religious who will never even attempt to except gay people. People will do terrible wrongs to people who are different and claim they disagree with their lifestyle or differences. Me and my boyfriend are still sometimes subject to funny looks or verbal abuse. But to add that is the select few who are ignorant or overly religious.
While we can't ignore the evil of humanity don't disown it yet there are people in the world who do so much good, not just fighting for the rights of gay couples but the equal rights of everyone.

You don't kill people because they are gay that is unacceptable. The church I belong to does not accept homosexuality because the bible condemns it along with many other things. However a religion has to have standards or else you should call it a country club. My churches standards are set by the bible not by ignorance, and by the way i am not a holy roller I will be the first to tell you there are a lot of standards in the bible that I fall short on. I am also on our local planning com. With a gay woman, I do not agree with her lifestyle and she knows it, however we get along really well and she is someone whose opinion I have come to respect very much. I don't know if you are including Christianity in the ignorance part of this or not.

It is always wrong to kill anyone because of the colour of their skin, or for the gender they are sexually attracted to.
Period.

But, it is coming to the point that when a straight person turns down a gay person who hits on them, the straight person is taking flak for it.
That, is also wrong.

There is nothing wrong with being straight, not at all gay.

No one should have to put up with sexual harrassment.

I guess they are 'ignorant" because they do not fit with your world view.

By the way- What is really achieved if someone 'understands" you? Understanding does not mean someone will change their views.

Yes it does. I persuade loads of people that animal testing is good by increasing their understanding.

Accusing "religion" of being ignorant, because they "fail" to accept or even try to "understand" gay couples reveals a certain amount of ignorance in its own right. I am assuming that you are referring to the more monotheistic religions, such as Muslim, Christian, and Judaism? If you are, then please mention that in your statement, because you are lumping all religions into the same category. There are way too many differences among them to treat them as one.

And why should those, whom I am assuming you are referring, religions be forced to accept something they are totally against? It's the same ole' song and dance! Claiming someone or some group is intolerant by expressing against them the characteristic of intolerance, while demanding the other be tolerant. Going around in circles. As long as man has existed, no person has ever gladly accepted something they are totally against without the use of force against them. Would I be off base if I said that you would be in favor of forcing acceptance for something?

And to tie in the act of murder by murderous persons of gay people with the so-called failure of religion just isn't fitting the puzzle. If you wish to disown humanity then that is your choice, but why disown what and who you are? Mankind has always been at war with itself. It is an unavoidable fact. If a problem exists, then come up with a logical and reasonable solution to fix it.

Sorry, but she did say "the ignorant religions" that indicates she means only some of them.

Why would a religion, that is against homosexuals, ever accept gays? The Bible isn't some flexible guideline that can be changed to suit one's lifestyle. I personally think it is wrong to hate on people that are different, but religion does not have to accept or understand what it deems as wrong. Would a far-left Liberal Democrat try to accept or understand a far-right Conservative Republican? Nope.

Of course it is, people change their reading and interpretation of the Bible all the time to fit whatever it is that they believe. That's how you can get so many gay Christian groups out there. The Bible can be made to fit just about any belief, just by twisting some passages and ignoring others. That's how every single believer on the planet does it already, so why not?
