Homework is necessary because it is a way for students to use their mind not just at school, but at home. If students are not tested frequently, they will most probably forget what they need to know. School was not made to be fun, and homework is never always fun but if one wants to maintain good grades and a good work ethic, homework is needed in order to accomplish that aspiration

Homework weeds out the poor students that have bad work ethic.

Of course homework is a necessary part of education!! It isn't enjoyable but it enables the child to be prepared for the exams coming up more so than they would be if they didn't have homework. It also enables the teacher's to see who is clever outside their help and wants to do well, and those who are the opposite.
However; it also can be inaccurate because the parents help the child a lot with the work as the teacher isn't there to do so. I also don't agree with the amount of homework they are giving young children. It is all very well giving a-level and gcse students a lot of homework because they have important exams but some children in primary school get ridiculous amounts of homework. This is where i feel it is not necessary because whilst the child needs to work, it is also important for a child to play and socialise too. What sort of community would we have if the children spent all their time working? A sad one.

I believe that Homework is necessary because most people will feel bored at home. Some people do not have all the latest technology to play with and they rely on homework to keep themselves busy. Also, Homework gives students a chance to practice what they have learned in school. This is extremely important because they can do the questions easier on the tests.

Homework is SO necessary! All of the negative comments are angry kids with "too much work!" it'll help you in the end if you do it

1-teaches student self-discipline, responsibility, time management along with more knowledge

2-it prevents you from watching TV, or anything else that makes you stupider

3-gives you time to practice what you learn in school

Only if it is actually worthwhile. It shouldn't just be given for the sake of giving it like a lot of it is.

Yes there should be cuz it is way for the teachers to know that the students know they are doing. Although they do add too much of it though

Kids will be able to learn even more from the homework. Homework is for a kid's own good.

Homework shows the people that care about you the most that you are doing something productive while away from their presence, plus it increases your brain power, It's a scientific fact, if you don't believe me, well just do your homework.

Yes because if someone didn't finish it in class it is their responsibility to finish it. If the teacher notices struggles in a subject for a student then i believe its OK for them to assign them a little extra work, only for the practice. Now if the teacher assigns students extra work just to occupy their time, that's different.

I agree that homework is necessary for the students to refresh their memory and can even help them to perform better. However, I believe that an overly excessive amount may instead harm the students. Colleges are requiring them to participate in extracurricular activities that diminish their time for homework. While homework and other important activities are both too demanding, the students are receiving too much pressure that is unhealthy, either physically or emotionally.

I think a small amount of homework can be useful. Not piles and piles of homework but some every now and then is good.

Yes, I guess that that might be even better than having no homework, because it would give students the pleasure of accomplishment and completion. Plus it would help them academically.

Teens are complicated creatures and i bet any amount of money that if homework weren't around these kids would not practice at all. I mean look at right now and how children don't do homework even if its for a grade!!! So without collecting it or without it there as a grade then they definitely wouldn't work as well as the fact that homework provides for a great grade booster. Without homework you may have three tests and a project and in math there aren't projects so just tests and grading scales would be so jacked up

I am a teen and I do my homework almost every night! Also, I would also bet any amount of money that I would do all of the homework I had time to do without staying up too late if homework would be made optional.

Homework is really important for most students. Some don't need it but most do, it helps them memorize the info. Also if classes were harder and the students were actually learning something then homework will be very important. I however notice the school isn't changeling enough and can't make it tougher *Cough* no child left behind *cough*

Homework makes one to perform better. This is the integral part of anybody’s process of learning. Be it a student or be it a sports person, homework is the primary pillar of his or her forthcoming performance. It helps to enhance the skill of people to their respective fields. Basically the child students need the homework very much as they do not comprehend the inevitability of their studies. Homework makes them to recall the studies what they learn from their school. The regular practice of homework assists to prepare a student for his forthcoming exams which he faces everyday. Thus homework means to me the base of anyone’s future footmarks in social life. If anybody or any student does not have his base perfect, he can not be a well performer in the exams of life that will come to his way every now and then.

I think children should be given some home work on daily basis as this thing makes them responsible, and more concerned about their studies.
But over burden is not good as well, as they also need some time to relax and play.

Homework is important for students because of the following reasons:

1. Students need practice to help memorize anything. Homework provides this sort of practice.

2. Students should always keep in touch with their studies and they should not waste their time after school. So again, homework helps them with this.

3. Sometimes, you may have a case where the question that a teacher has posed and been answered seems to be clear while in the class room, but when students do their homework they find a few additional problems. So, the next day they can ask their teacher about that problem.

4. Doing homework regularly helps a student in the preparation of exams. Everything learnt will be fresh in the mind of a student at the time of the actual exam.

So, homework has lots of advantages and one should not deny it's importance.

First they want us to get fresh air and exercise

now they want us to sit inside doing home work

I believe homework is a waste of children's time after they have been at school all day and then have to come home and waste time doing homework and could be outside in the fresh air.
Though it would be okay if the children did not finish work at school and had to take it home to do!

I tested this my sophmore year. I was in a... Moderately high math class, above the basic majority. Test in the class were worth 80% of the grade and this got me thinking, what if? That whole year I did not open my textbook once. I went on notes, and basic mathmatical knowledge. Not that homework is the root of ALL evil, it helps forcibly pound the material into your memory, but it is not a necessity.

When kids get out of school they should get to have some fun 1 page a week i think. They come home with 5 pages that have to be done in one day

When the bell rings at a school means that the students are know being dismissed meaning they are done with school for the day so why do teachers give homework imagine working at McDonald's and they gave homework it will be something like cut 300 tomatoes

No. Assignments should not be mandatory. Children have a full day of work, an 8 hour day. Then they have to come home and spend time doing homework? At my high school a 1 hour class was supposed to get 45 mins of homework a night. With 2 hour sports after school, homework would be the only thing we do at night. The 45 minute homework rule was not taken seriously. People who did not do any homework passed classes. Homework is a joke. Kids who are interested in the subject study because it's cool, not because they are mandated.

I think homework is necessary, but it doesn't have to be done in school. If you would install year-round schooling, the curriculum wouldn't be so tight, and lessons can be taught slowly, and "homework" can be done in class, so they can enjoy their family and childhood at home.

I think that homework should be as Extra credit because some kids don't have enough room in there after school schedules so they end up staying up really late and by the time they finish their homework and they want to go to bed they have to take a shower and get ready for school then they get written up for sleeping in class

Children should not have to do homework because must of them do a lot of work at school so only the people who don't do much work should get home work

I think that it should be optional, because it will give students a sense of freedom, and I bet they will end up doing most of it anyway.

giving too much freedom too early is definitely a bad thing that's what college is for and if you don't believe me look back on your life when you were 8 could u stay home by yourself (i hope not) when u were 10 could you drive a car (i think not) and homework should stay mandatory although i hate it u cant help but realize it helps and if your that closed minded about the issue then you'll never understand
