Halloween Teaches Kids That It's O.K. To Panhandle To Get What You Want Rather Than Earning It.
It teaches kids that it's OK for them to go from door to door begging strangers for handouts.

Today, the kids are asking for candy.
Tomorrow, the young adults will be asking for free college educations.
Next, the middle-aged parents will be whining for free health care and cheap drugs.
Later, the seniors will be demanding their social security stipend.

Oh wait...

There should be an age limit. If someone over a certain age without adult supervision, you should not open the door.

OK you're half right, it teaches them to threaten violence to get what they want, because remember they're saying "trick or treat" - as in give me a treat or I'll do something bad to you. So it's not so much about panhandling as extortion.

Are you serious? Maybe it shows kids that in the spirit of community and fun people like to share with one another.

I never saw it as panhandling to get what I want; I just saw it as a day to wear something that you wouldn't normally wear in exchange for candy. I didn't see anything past the fun in the holiday. That and I'm not panhandling now I don't think, so it didn't teach me jack >:-(

It involves kids in the community which needs to happen more. People have gotten so ridiculously paranoid and hysterical that they hide their children from the world so that they become adults who are clueless as to the real world or how to make actual friends. Not to mention that a lot of them are pathologically narcissistic and even sociopathic because they have no empathic development.

So there are no other ways to involve kids in the community other than door-to-door panhandling?

It taught me that going to door to door for candy during Halloween was fun. I was taught to say "thank you" and I also noticed how nice everyone was to us kids.

Not what I learned. I liked the costume more than candy.
