Gay People Should Be Allowed To Marry
In the UK they can have a 'civil partnership' what if they want to marry. Straight people have a right to marry if they so choose, so why can't gay people?

The only valid argument against gay marriage would be there is a limit on the number of marriage licenses that can be issued by a city, state/province or national government in a year. Since there is no such limit, it's not a valid argument, and since there are no other valid arguments, there's no reason to prevent gays from living and loving. It's outdated ignorance and bigotry, that's all.

According to the Barna Group, a reichwing-run company that does surveys, 26% of fundamentalist christians in the US get divorced, the highest percentage of any group, while atheists at 21% were the lowest. How unsurprising that the godbots who talk about "family values" and "protecting the sanctity of marriage" are the least likely to live up to it.

And, like most hypochristians, the Barna Group later buried their own research and refuse to provide it anymore.

The whole "it is abomination" thing was mistranslated, I heard. Though I've forgotten the original word, it essentially meant "abnormal". In context, it had something to do with a decreasing population of some town, society, etc.

Bible references aside, I'll answer with the classic question: Why not?

If you said "sure!" -- Well done, you're either open minded, or just don't care!

If you said "never!" -- You're a Nazi! Let's face it; you probably hate Black people and Jews as well.

Of course they should be allowed to get married. Honestly, this debate is NEVER going to be resolved with all the ignorant people in the world. If two people love each other, why should others be granted the right to judge them or prohibit them from unification? I know there are plenty of Bible-Thumpers out there who would say that its "evil" and that all gay people are going to be "damned to Hell" and frankly, I could care less about those people. After all, isn't it wrong to marry your family members or have more than one wife? The answer is yes, but there are still some churches that condone that. In my opinion, marrying your cousin is a lot more disgusting than being gay. Honestly, people are just afraid of what they can't understand and this is why the issue of gay marriage is under such scrutiny. Get over it people; this is what change is. Get off your high horses please. If you don't like what's happening, you can either (1)Ignore it. Or (2)Leave. Its honestly that simple.

It's all part of the plan. As soon as you accept gay marriage we have teams of gay ninjas waiting to swoop into your houses. They will turn all your children gay and probably redecorate a little bit.

I hope you are at least partially right. I could use some redecorating. Maybe some could also do my hair or redo my wardrobe for me. People are about crazy when it comes to this. When is the last time that a group of gay people have tried to convert you to becoming homosexual? : ) (Not you...I know you are kidding...I'm referring to the people who truly believe this kind of thing)

What dangerous medical condition or other harmful anomaly can occur in a homosexual relationship that has been utterly demonstrated not to be capable of occurring in a heterosexual one? If you can’t find an answer to that question that's supported by scientific discovery you best not even think about trying to sway me from agreeing with the debate.

Why would that sway you? As adults they should be allowed to accept additional risks if they deem it worth it.

We should all be allowed to choose who we spend our lives with and the level of commitment we decide to share with that person.

I think there are many good reasons to maintain marriage between man and woman. Not going to go into them here, but I have "evolved" my thinking to--hey, marriage is a good thing, commitment to another is a good thing, it would be better in many ways for the society to have folks more monogamous (for health reasons) and so I vote yes. However, the equal rights argument holds no water in my view.

They should be alowed there rights as much as hetrosexual people are. I mean yeah its not what everyone would call right as it is not what the bible says. But i think people need to move past religion as everything in the bible has or can be disproved by science and fact.

So yeah, gay rights.

I'm completely in favor of gay marriage. 1) It truly does no harm to society. States have had gay marriage for more than a few years now and society didn't fall apart. 2) It's necessary for equality, especially for equal legal rights. 3) It brings families and love together. It's beautiful. Hey heterosexual marriages may be falling apart at an alarming rate, so who are the straights to try to tell the gays they don't qualify for marriage? The gays will probably treat the institution with even more respect than the straights. 4) Don't even start on the "what about the kids" argument because many gay families have adopted and are raising happy well adjusted kids. Once again it's actually straight couples behind the track record of broken families and child abuse and neglect. 5) And yes I'd be willing to except "union" or some other name instead of marriage PROVIDED all the legal rights and obligations tied to marriage are also tied to the different term.

I hope this doesn't seem arrogant or like a massive stereotype/generalisation but I think the gay community do treat marriage with more respect in a lot of cases. Because those who can get married feel so priveleged to be able to and have had to fight for the right to so hard they don't want to let go of it. I think there is South Africa, a few European countries and Canada and less than a dozen American states that allow gay marriage so people who do opt for really will fight to preserve the fact that they have gained that right when so many other are unable to.
Not that I'm slamming heterosexual marriage, lots of straight couples stay the course but it's just my theory.

Gays shouldnt even be allowed in the united states because it will decrease the population because a male and a male cant make a baby and a female and a female cant make a baby!!!

Wow and I thought dlmiller was the most stupid person on this site but low and behold we've found another. Firstly lower population isn't a bad thing especially considering the rapid rise in the US population. Gay people make up less than 5% of the population of the US, hardly a threat now is it. And actually gay people can have kids just not through traditional methods.Your argument is so flawed and so pathetic.

Look, what's next after this? Centuries ago, many people said it was wrong, and yet since it gave a sense of pleasure, people began to 'experiment' their sexual needs in different kinds of ways. For instance - incest, bestiality, etc., even though they knew that it was wrong in their heart. And few years ago, people would've scoffed at the idea of gay marriage. But are you people all blind? The reason why government is allowing gay marriage is possibly due to the persecution of the gays and disorder. To keep that order, the law had done this, and media encouraged the idea of homosexuality.
However, being gay means that you were influenced by your surroundings. My friend who was from another country said that her former country had tons of gay people living there because of their culture. It's not about your genes. Oh, just because you're obese, you blame it on your genes and don't do anything about it... That's not right. If you're obese and if your health is faltering, then do something about it! Control, where's your sense of control? Are we not human, and don't we have a sense of will-power and control? People, you may be saying that it's right to marry the one you love, and say that bestality or necrophilia or pedophilia is wrong, but years later, these things will be allowed if gay marriage opens its door. And it's already started....

Dear God. This has got to be one of the most ignorant notions I've ever come across. You truly have to be kidding me, right? Let me ask you something: would you let anyone tell you not to wear white socks with red shoes just because they think its wrong? Why would you knowingly try to make someone misreable by forcing them to pretend they're something they're not? By the way, your referrences to beastlity, necrophilia, and pedophilia in association with gay marriage is completely ludicrous. Do some research before you post your opinions. Otherwise, it just makes you seem stolid.

No they shouldn't. That very notion is corrupt. Marriage is between a man and a woman. Not between two dudes or 2 women.

Why? If a church refuses to marry two members of the same sex, that is their right, but to allow gay people to have a right to be married legally does not infringe upon the church. Some churches are willing to marry same sex partners. If they are allowed to be "married" in that sense, why not legally? I'm not picking on you. I just want to know what you thing about this because to state that it is corrupt is not really contributing a lot to the debate. I know what your morla opinion is, but wat about the legal aspect of marriage?

No, they shouldn't. Marriage was specifically designed for a man and a woman, homosexuality is unnatural, and it's an abomination.

What's next, incest marriage?

Here's the reason for no incestual marriage. The risk of children, do you know what happens when two members of the same family have a child? No of course you don't. The poor child ends up with severe brain disabilities and genetic defects. That's why there is no incestual marriage.
And homosexuality is neither unnatural or an abomination.
