Fundamentally, Nothing Actually Exists
As Dr. Carl Sagan famously said, "If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe." And noted Zen philosopher Hui-neng actually agrees.

Here we go again. The title is worded wrong. There is one thing that absolutely cannot exist. That would be nothing. There is no such thing.

On to the topic...

The overwhelming evidence suggests that this universe is finite. The question is simple...does something which is temporary really exist. Of course it does. It may be the smallest, most insignificant existence that could possible be measured, but existence none the less. The measure of this existence would be by all practical means described as next to nothing.

Even if you created the universe to make the apple pie, in the end (and we can take that literally) you would be left with a memory. A memory of the universe and the apple pie. So now it could be said you remember something which proves it existed. But it no longer exists. Again the question, does that which is temporary really exist.

Once the memory fades or is lost forever, there being no proof or even claim that temporary existed, then the existence is not a factor (literally).

It would seem that existence would be paramount to eternity. That the only way to SECURE existence would to be a part of eternity.

There is no question, if there is eternity, it exists. It would seem existence is eternity and eternity is existence. Anything else seems next to nothing.

All I have to say is I think therefore I am.

I must not be fundamental then. My stuff sure is real. My computer is. That's why you are getting my comments! If they are not real, how are you able to read them?

Oh, I almost forgot......IF I can make an apple pie from scratch, AND I CAN, then the universe must have been created already.

Nice quote...like it a lot. But since I'm here now, breathing, moving, thinking, I exist. It doesn't matter how I got here, just the fact that I exist. (I really liked this debate, because it's an inside joke my family has with my brother...it's a long story)

I think therefore I am. Means I exist. But do you exist? Does anyone else exist? That is the question.
