Fried Food Should Be Banned From Eating In Schools, Not At All Cost
It's your debate, people.

I understand that people are pro-choice, but think about it. If i (high school student) want to go on a diet or something, come lunch time i will look at the menu. Really, what do i want to eat? A nasty sandwich or some pizza? Obviously, the pizza. Even if i consciously don't want to eat the pizza due to health reasons, I'm probably still going to eat it. Then, I will feel bad about myself until I forget about it. If these kinds of foods were omitted or AT LEAST replaced, my decision would be much simpler. Screw bad choices.

You do realize that your angle is completely self-centered. Doesn't your school have a salad bar?

It definitely should be. Kids don't need to be raised on that stuff.

It should definately be banned, because it is a great hazard to persons health especially if consumed on daly basis. And since it contains so much cholesterol, sugar and often other chemicals that are bad for your health, it is definately a threat to the children. And if not banned it must be at least cut down to smaller portions and be monitored to by propper authorities indipendent companies to be well prepared and not have any chemicals. This is children we are talking about not cows that are bread for slaughter we have to take care of them.

Then take care of your children yourself and stop making the government do it. A child needs to learn good eating habits and learn how to make good eating choices, but how will they do that with people making the choice for them. I'm sure there are other things to eat. Plus, exercising will burn the sugar and I'm sure some Cheerios can help lower cholesterol. Maybe if there were some permanent or immediate effects then it would be a problem.

Yes, it cost society money when people get sick, we might as well do something simple like this with our public monies to protect us from the cost of disease.

Yes, totally. What you eat when you are young mostly defines what you'll eat later on for the rest of your life because you're used to it. Even if there are choices, a lot of kids are going to just eat fried food and sometimes it is cheaper, sort of forcing some.

We didn't have any fast food at my high school and I've never heard anyone complaining.

Fats and oils are supposed to be consumed sparsely, and school cafeterias adapt school lunches for the food pyramid. However, schools should not serve fried food because it's just really not nutritious and should be consumed on the student's own time.

The schools' lunches aren't only unhealthy, but they're not tasty! It's cheap..... That's why they use them. If we got rid of the free school lunches, they could prepare better food. My kids pack because it's so bad.

In Australia we have a 'traffic light' program in our canteens where the green light is food for every day, orange is once a week and red is never. What's good is the fact that many 'red light' foods can be imitated using natural ingredients eg. Fruit slushies, fruity ice-creams etc.! They still taste good and are a much healthier choice!

Fast food although it does taste good it is UNHEALTHY FOR YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I saw a special on how McDonalds makes chicken nuggets or how and fast food place makes chicken nuggets it was DIGUSTING!!!!!!! I will never eat another fast food chicken nugget again

Well unless your schools have McDonald's in them, this is hardly relevant. This is fried foods from a cafeteria. I'm sure a cafeteria worker's cooking is going to be a little different from McDonalds. Plus your first statement I would have to disagree with. Is an apple from a fast food restaurant unhealthy?

I agree that fried food should not be part of a publically sponsered lunch program. Let them eat that at home if they really want it.

Why should we it wold make lunch time worse and if your saying it will make school lunches healthy it is wrong because school lunch is unhealthy even the vegetables are unhealthy so it would not make school lunches healthy

Ever notice regulation is like a plague? Regulated everyone into one school system, regulated medical, regulated companies... As a result now we need to regulate school lunch, health insurance, and minimum wage. Regulation leads to more regulation needs. If the school system was an open market there would be more options and the parents of those students could make the appropriate choice for their children be it about lunch or education.

This problem happened not because of school's fault., but students' own choices. There are no reasons to ban this with the law and should not happen, as people have their own freedom to choose what to eat during their school lunch time. Whatever they'd like to have for their meals, it's truly none of anyone's business. Also, even if school provides lunch with only unhealthy fried foods, this is again up to students because if you do not want to eat those then just stop having them and try to pack your owns or buy something outside. Of course school has got to care well with students and this action includes taking care of their health as well, but again we should give the opportunity to choose freely.

It is not the schools fault. The students have the choice of what to eat and what not to eat.Everyone should take care of himself as it is seen as profit to schools, too.

Schools need to have a healthy tasty and cheep alternitive. Thats how we get kids to eat healthier. Schools also need to prepare fried foods in a healthier manor using oils such as sunflower oil or cornola oil. You know the healthier oils. None of this shortning and trans fat stuff.

It should not be banned, but their ought to be CHEAP healthy alternatives. Healthy, organic food tends to be much more expensive.

The government should not have the power to tell children what to eat at school. However, I think it should provide some healthy foods along with the unhealthy foods.

Why not ban food all together while you're at it and just force feed us some nutritous paste. Maybe even sports because there are health risks with those too! How about large books? Aren't many kids walking around with huge bookbags that might cause severe back problems later in life. Rays from the sun cause skin cancer so why not ban it as well. Weight is a personal issue and not a government issue. If this government is for the people and by the people then why can't a person make his or her own choice not to have fried foods. I am 17 years old and if you are telling me that I am too incompetent to make my own decisions or know the risks of eating unhealthy foods then I am living in the wrong America. Whats funny is that most the effects of fried foods can be reversed but most effects of smoking can't be reversed. Our government, although needed for some problems, does not need to be the answer for everything. If we take things that even have a possible negative outcome away little by little then what are we going be left with? The internet and tv's will be gone. Anything that has polution will be gone. I dont want a more controlling government and if I did I would move to a communist country.

Why should we ban it? I say give the kids options and let them choose for themselves. You can't force the kids to eat right. Then most of them don't figure out how to do it when they leave school. Allowing some french fries occassionally won't give your kids diabetes or make them obese

Leave it as a choice, give healthy options. This was what my high school did and it worked out just fine. Nothing wrong with some french fries now and then, unless maybe they fry them in peanut oil and you're allergic to peanuts... So then I dunno.

Fried food should not be banned. But I'm not saying I'm completely against it. What should be done is to promote healthier food choices, because if you simply ban fried food, then you're gonna have lots of other problems

So because some people in schools are a bit obese, the government should step in and ban all unhealthy food in schools? It is not there job to do this and they have better things to do that worry about what parents let their kids eat. Lol

Students should be allowed to eat whatever they want. Just because they're children doesn't mean people should restrict their diet, it's up to them if they want to eat unhealthy food.

School menus reflect what students want to eat, and, unfortunately, it's what their parents tend to feed them. How many kids have a balanced dinner with vegetables, meat, and fruits; as compared to take-out pizza or chicken fingers?

Students have a particular choice of what they wish to consume on a daily basis, fried foods is rather more a choice than a negative benficiary. Maybe it shouldn't be served everyday, but students should be able to understand the risks if they are eating fried or fatty foods.

I think there needs to be a balance and that's that. I don't really think you need to ban it but yeah.

Personally, I'm getting a little tired of the government telling what I should consume. They are the absolute last authority I would trust to determine what is healthy or not. From my observations, the schools always offer some "healthy" alternative. So let them have the choice. If I notice my kid starting to get pudgy, I'll tell him to start skipping the fries. But as long as he resembles a bean-pole, he can eat what he wants.

Send them to private schools because public schools are ran by both local and federal government. So they do have a say.

I think schools should focus on the things in the school environment that really do harm the kids, like a crappy education, incompetent teachers, violence from other kids. I suppose if you think fried food is the evil of all evils in the public schools then fight to change, but I think there bigger issues at stake in our schools.

Balance of what's on the menu should not require a legislative "ban". If dieticians, cooks, or administrators in charge of school cafeterias fail to offer up a healthy and balanced menu then they should be fired and replaced with someone else. And if you don't fire them and then just ban a food type (like fried) then the same incompetent people who only offered fried may switch to some other less healthy food choice (sugary, salty, fatty, etc) and just undo the good you intend by banning fried foods.
