Yes.
As it is now.
But it is still a basic human right to say what you think believe whatever you want to.
The human race will go extinct without free speech.
But there will be one one left to write about it when we are all gone. |

Yes, of course. Even via Internet, you cannot always state your mind on any subject. Try to talk
about the Holocaust or incest without being subject of all kinds of pressure to stop or moderate
your opinion. |

Yes, in many places, there are restrictions on what you can say and what you can't. But these
restrictions are put up by the specific institutions (for example, a Catholic school), not the
government. Other restrictions, like the ones mentioned by Garamond, are purely social. If you are
prepared to live an isolated life without contact with civilization, you can say whatever you feel
like. Mostly, freedom of speech applies to freedom of press, meaning the press and media are a
separate entity from the government and have free reign to criticize it, which they make use of on a
daily basis. The other important branch of freedom of speech is the freedom to say what you want on
your property, which most people don't make use of due to those very important social restrictions I
mentioned above. The third branch of freedom of speech is for each private institute to have the
freedom to make their own rules about speech within the boundaries of their property (for example,
you school, restricting atheist proclamations). The only requirement is that they inform everyone of
it beforehand and give the other person a choice as to whether or not he wishes to be in that
area.
Free speech is being practiced everywhere on different levels, from the corporate to the private.
While the situation at present has room for improvement, it is by no means BS. |

Freedom of speech doesn't mean you can say anything you want at any time where ever you want within
the borders of your country. There are some limitations that exist to preserve the freedoms of
other people. You do not have the right to disrupt a public event with your free speech, you don't
have the right to disclose certain confidential information in the name of free speech, and you
don't have the right to free speech within the confines of private property. |
