True people will always be confident if they are the first ones to post and they thing no one else
will so they are right |

I agree with the sentiment of the debate topic, although I'd phrase the topic differently. Cocky,
extreme, angry, sassy, show-boating arguments are common in here. I hope I'm not usually guilty of
it. BUT (and I capitalize not to shout that but to make clear I'm reversing course) in a debate
website it's freedom of expression so really anything people want to say and anyway they want to say
it should still be valid. If you debate someone face to face you'll still see a lot of the same
behaviors you see in print on this site. |

I'd agree, respect for your opponents is also sometimes lacking on this site. |

I suppose I disagree with the word choice of "confidence" a bit, but agree with the debate as a
whole. Consideration and a sense humility could go a long way sometimes. There will likely always
be some more heated debates. Those lend themselves to people speaking with much more conviction,
however, even then it is possible to respect the feelings and opinions of others. They may not be
the same as what someone else feels, but they are valid as far as an opinion. Where people state
false fact, I think that can be confidently pointed out, but still with consideration for the other
person's feelings. Some people on here are also on here as a type of social networking...at least
that is the impression that I've gotten over time. There are times where everyone can cross a line
in a debate, but for the most part, keeping an open mind will not only prevent coming across as too
"confident" but will also allow for learning. Even when opinions differ from mine, there are many
times that I find myself thinking about them and realize that I may have viewed something in a
different way for no good reason. Even if I maintain my original opinion, I still find many
differing opinions to be enlightening. |

The bottom line is, I'm right, you're wrong. Go educate yourself, then you'll realize the truth is,
I've always been right! |
