Football Is An Overrated Sport. There Should Be Limits To How Much Footballers Can Be Paid. Less Time Should Be Given To It And Other Sports On The Television
Footballers are grossly overpaid for what seems to be very little real work.

They are grossly over paid, when there are children starving in Africa, and we pay these guys to run around a score goals over giving food and medical help to those who cannot afford it themselves

Do you seriously think that the amount footballers are paid has any bearing whatsoever on children starving in Africa. If anything the fact that a lot of these overpaid footballers (and they are overpaid) are African and the money they earn often gets put to very good use in their homeland. Look at Michael Essien, he will be playing tonight, and some of the projects he has helped establish.

I totally agree that footballers are grossly overpaid.
They don't get injured!
What about firefighters who risk their own lives to rescue others?
Footballers are given millions to kick a ball around.

How lame.

Yea there's no reason any athlete should receive some sort of 'entertainment tax' based on the popularity of their respective sport... The lack of caps and the lengths those lack allow these people's salaries to grow is inane

you call what they do not a job, they work every single day. Get up in morning, go train, go to training camp. You don't call that work they have to work there @ss of to be the best. The Hall Of Fame. Football is America's game. Its there job to play the sport because they love and people love the game. What do you think a real job is? Its working, doing something, and geting paid. technically its a job now is it.

All football players do is play a game that originally was supposed to be played for fun not money. They should make just as much as the average working person.

For what they actually do I think the amount that footballers are paid is ridiculous.
When they are compared with scientists, doctors, factory workers and househusbands and wives they don't seem to do a lot really.
The way the status of the profession has been exaggerated you'd think they did something useful. They do entertain people in a way but the attention given to them, their lives, wives and girlfriends is ridiculous. Take the Beckhams why on earth are so many people interested in them? Apart from having not a lot to do but spend too much on fashion what has Mrs Beckham achieved - apart from the Spice Girls comeback tour and a few TV adverts? If they weren't paid so much they might do some useful jobs too.
In the past football was a low paid career and still had a great following so why not return to the old ethos of the game and make it vocation and not a sport that's all out of proportion for what it really is?

Football isn't over rated. It's widely popular, throughout America anyway. People pay a lot of money to see it because they like it. It's as simple as that.

You put too many debates in one, so I have to disagree. I do, however, agree that football is an overrated sport. However, limits on their pay is not fair- they have the right to be paid however much their employer pays them.

I believe researcher is talking about proper football, not the American bastardisation of the name, when that sport should really be called 'throwy ball'

I obviously disagree with that comment, football is a business and the commodities are the players, it is natural and right that these performers should be paid the small portion of the cash they generate.

It's like musicians, they play or began playing for fun, and could still just play for themselves at home for fun, but when you get involved in the music business, it is right and proper that these people are paid for the money they generate, could you call plucking a guitar a proper job ? Not really, they sing songs for a living.

Footballers kick footballs round a park and generate billions, in entertainment, in revenue, in advertising, it's a full on football business from which they are the stars and should be paid for being the main reason people go to see the games, to watch the top professionals perform.

People enjoy the sport, its a passion, a joy, its just an amazing game. Don't be jealous because there getting paid a lot, there professionals, their good at what they do. Better than anyone else. Those football players in NFL do things that people could never do. Also its because of us they make all there money. If no one would watch there games at the stadium or on TV, football would just be a lame sport and players wouldn't become rich and famous.
Ruby is like football but its different, do you know anyone who is rich and famous from playing ruby, no because people just didn't like the sport as much over football. Many people in America love Football. Football is America's game. Just like Europe is soccer, Canada is Hockey. We are the ones who control how much they make, so don't be hating on them because there making the $$. The superbowl has millions of people world wide who watch it, the companies who put there Ad's during the superbowl have to pay over millions just to put it on. Because the superbowl is when the most people in America watch. If people wouldn't watch the superbowl. Football wouldn't be that successful, but a lot i mean a lot of people love football. So don't be hating on how much they make.

This is true that football is getting more hype than the other sports to some countries. But it’s not only for its ever-growing demand but also its own charisma that is making it famous day by day. Every country is trying to play football internationally and therefore its popularity is growing in enormous manner compare to the other sports. It is helping to get an overflow in economy to the even tiny countries and that’s for I don’t want to take this sport as an overrated sport. Football is perfectly placed in its position & serving an individual as well as the country the person representing. It’s nothing but the enormous demand of this game made it more competitive as well as more dealt with money. But this up gradation is apt for this popular game in order to help those countries which are blindly dependant on it only.

They deserve every penny of that money. Football is a very popular sport, and it is very dangerous. I think that football is the only sport that females just aren't really welcomed to playing. It is very rough, and they put their lives on the line for it. They also spend a lot of time away from their families trying to train for it. Football has to be at least the second most popular sport in the US.

They can kick/trip/punch each other (by mistake might I add).
That's about it though.
There are countless other jobs out there who deserve more that they get.

I don't think anybody will be interesting in watching rugby, hockey, badminton, table tennis or karate on television....
If football have larger percentage of audience only than multi national companies will invest in it.... Its people who decide Wat should run on television.....
As for the amount the get paid than there are a lot of things we can look into like superstars, miss world, prince charles, and cricketers. Its few in the millions who are able to make so much money. Not every actor can be a super star and not every player can be a great footballer.
So we should appreciate the person for getting what he;s worth of, cause everyone doesn't get it.
But to see where they are spending, is wrong because if one have so much money they should spend it. Everyone spendthrift whether he's a clerk or bill gates; it makes a person happy
