Felons Should Have Rights Restored To Vote And Bear Arms If Convicted For Non Violent Crimes
Every one that pays taxes should have civil rights. If a person pays into the system then they should have a voice in bills or laws to be passed. Fist time offenders for non violent crimes should be able to bear arms. Writing a bad check or dui does not make you a hazard to have a gun.

If you are convicted of a crime that just means you got caught. All first time single offence felons are suppose to have there civil rights restored upon completion of court sentencing and conditions. But they are not allowed to vote or carry firearms. If anything they should have to register all weapons to be possessed. The way it is now immigrants have more rights than felons. If the majority of the public becomes felons than there wont be anyone to vote against bills or tax increases

I agree in principle.

There are always circumstances to consider though. A) Treason - It may be nonviolent, but would you really let them vote again?, b) Voter fraud - would you let them vote again?, c) What if their own crime is nonviolent but empowers others to be more violent - i.e. Someone repeatedly violating gun sale laws?

But in principle, yes, they're part of society, society should make every effort to restore their civil rights within reason.

This makes sense.

One offense isn't necessarily indicative of another.

But don't you have to assume it is? That's why we have prisons. Even if it was non-violent, you still lose privileges.

"Writing a bad check or dui does not make you a hazard to have a gun." I don't know... If you're thought process is screwed up enough to allow you to steal or to drive drunk, I have to question the same brain in control of a gun.

We know the consequences of our actions here. Like I said in your other debate, if a track record can prove that a person has truly changed, I'm all for forgiveness.
