Fear Is The Parent Of Cruelty; Therfore, It Is No Wonder Why Cruelty And Religion Go Hand In Hand.
Think about it. Why do a lot of people discriminate against gays? Or against other religions? Or against other countrys? Or teachings? Or principals? Or words? Or thoughts???? Because of religion. Remember the origion of the peace symbol: A broken cross. Because without religion, there would be peace.

I completely agree with you, but im not talking about fearing god. Im talking about religions instilling the fear of a tortuous afterlife if their doctrins are not followed, and patrons of that religion blindly following cruel orders or teachings just to avoid that hellish afterlife. (Like persecuting gays or others of a diferrent thought system or belief system.) In the words of Albert Einstein: (Im paraphrasing of course) If we do good only in the name of avoiding punishment and seeking a reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.

You make a provocative and interesting statement and I won't deny there are many examples from life and history which seem to confirm it. However, I disagree with it being a blanket statement. A) Some cruelty is indeed for cruelty sake instead of from fear, no? B) Some religious really do try for peace and love instead of judgment and cruelty, no? C) Some non-religious are cruel.

If you think in terms of a "necessary" or "sufficient" test, religion is not "necessary" in order to be fearful or cruel. Sometimes it may be "sufficient" to lead to fear or cruelty but I think that's not the case more often than it is the case.

Youre absolutely right. There are most definitely people who are peaceful and religious, and there are definitely people who are cruel and non religious. There will always be exceptions, and not everything is clearly defined.

I agree with Cons_Lies....when one has faith there is nothing to fear. I do not fear God. I view Him as loving. Sending Christ to die for our sins is an act of love. Those who say they are "God fearing Christians" don't seem to get that or something. I love God and believe He loves all of us. He is our Heavenly Father.

You are right that there are extremes in religion. I'm Christian, but I don't hate gays or people with other religious beliefs. I don't believe we are here to judge one another. Most people live in glass houses and should not throw stones. Not one of us is perfect.

If you believe and have faith in God, there is nothing to fear.

It requires a lack of faith not only in God, but in yourself to create fear.

Having the capacity to discriminate is a good thing. It is how we handle it that may cause question.

This is your second "God-based" debate. If the premise of this one is accurate, I guess I question your fear of God?
