Of course it is! It emphasizes people's desire to be accepted and admired. The desperation to be
"in" is so great in some people that they will do whatever they can in order to gain the satisfation
of feeling like they're the center of the universe. Fashion is one of the top businesses in the
world due to the outrageous prices people are willing to pay to look popular. |

I agree. The people in fashion will tell you that this year, such and such in in. The next year they
will say so and so is in. Were they wrong the previous year?
It's all about moving product. |

Is fashion really vain? I see three different ways to argue this point.
The first point I want to make is that people who create fashion are like artists; there is no
difference between someone who creates some attractive shirt and a painter who creates a decent
painting. I think people forget that some fashion designers design clothes because it is their
passion and they love doing it.
The second point is I see nothing wrong with making yourself look appealing to attract others into
your company. I find a natural order to wanting to make yourself look like the best thing out
there.
The last point is being involved in fashion does not automatically kill your individuality or make
you a sheep; I've seen plenty of things worn by others that I thought was ridiculous but they
considered it fashion and beautiful fashion at that. Sometimes people involved in fashion have some
crazy tastes... |
