The right not to state oaths shows how much freedom one has.
Those in favour of mandatory pledges and required standing for national anthems should raise their
hand. In a "Seig heil". |

We should support our country in other ways, the pledge of alliance is pretty useless as far as
supporting our troops in Iraq because they are never gonna know we are pledging the flag. |

What an absolutely stupid comment!!!!!! If the School does not believe that saying the Pledge every
day is not an essential, then they should not have it as an option, due to the opinion of many
children in the schools that it would be a pointless exercise if every time they watch the Dodgers
play, they sing their national anthem! That shows country pride enough don't you think????? I am all
for Patriotism, but i do not believe it is an essential for young children, even Teenage children to
make it, as they still have free minds which are changing every day!!!!! |

It's wrong to brainwash children. Their minds should be allowed to develop freely. Nationalism is a
bad thing. It warps the judgement, as we saw from the zombie like submission accorded to George W.
Bush.
Thousands of innocent dead people are the result of inculcating extreme nationalism into children.
Maybe you should show some pictures from Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo and have the children salute that
instead. Because that's what flag-worship leads to. |

I've got nothing against the Pledge of Allegiance or partiotism. However, do you want people to
comply simply because of rote repetitive behavior (i.e. Social brainwashing) OR because they
genuinely believe what they're saying and are real patriots?
What good is a country full of insincere automatons? I'm sure in North Korea lots of people pay
lipservice to Kim Jung Il, even school kids taking a daily allegiance. Should we be like them? |

If a school doesn't want to, it shouldn't have to. Students who demand things like this can go and
find another school. The school is run by the state, not the students. |
