If you take out the under god part of the pledge I wouldn’t have a problem with it being a volunteer school organization.

There is nothing wrong with having the pledge as a daily exorcise in allegiance. It should be done in all schools all over the world. Each country has its own unique culture. It is being diluted all the time. Daily pledge helps to balance things up.

I think schools should offer it this way.....because it gives the student the option.....my high school does it this way...and I never participate just for the fact that I think the war is dumb.....but by the school saying you are going to do it...or none of you are going to do it...is totally wrong...........

Schools should give their students the option. There is no reason not to. If you are foreign and don't like it, don't say it. I am in total agreement in regards to the war. We have soldiers dying for this country but we let foreigners control us and what we can do.

Most children in America that have the option of saying the pledge at school don't really know what it means. And we are just promoting that by not having it offered in middle schools, and high schools. The other day I was at a softball thing, and I found out that most girls don't even know the national anthem, let alone know what it means. I think that is so sad that our country is allowing patriotism to be thrown out the window. Everyone has a choice to be patriotic or not, but we have to allow the ones that would prefer to stand up in salute our flag the right to do so, even in schools

The right not to state oaths shows how much freedom one has.

Those in favour of mandatory pledges and required standing for national anthems should raise their hand. In a "Seig heil".

They do have the right to choose not to say the pledge. But the ones who wish to say it should have the right to do so. Nobody ever said it was required

We should support our country in other ways, the pledge of alliance is pretty useless as far as supporting our troops in Iraq because they are never gonna know we are pledging the flag.

What an absolutely stupid comment!!!!!! If the School does not believe that saying the Pledge every day is not an essential, then they should not have it as an option, due to the opinion of many children in the schools that it would be a pointless exercise if every time they watch the Dodgers play, they sing their national anthem! That shows country pride enough don't you think????? I am all for Patriotism, but i do not believe it is an essential for young children, even Teenage children to make it, as they still have free minds which are changing every day!!!!!

What if the kids never get to go to a dodgers game. Or what if they don't even know what the national anthem means? How can you be for patriotism but not want kids to have the choice to say the pledge? Is it not interupting your FREE MINDS statement to say that it is not essential?

It's wrong to brainwash children. Their minds should be allowed to develop freely. Nationalism is a bad thing. It warps the judgement, as we saw from the zombie like submission accorded to George W. Bush.

Thousands of innocent dead people are the result of inculcating extreme nationalism into children. Maybe you should show some pictures from Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo and have the children salute that instead. Because that's what flag-worship leads to.

How is that brain washing? And if your so much against patriotism then why are you in America? You should be proud that you live in a country that allows freedoms. Sure we have troops over in Iraq that are willing to put their lifes on the line for our country. I think the least we should do is offer kids to have the right to say the pledge.

I've got nothing against the Pledge of Allegiance or partiotism. However, do you want people to comply simply because of rote repetitive behavior (i.e. Social brainwashing) OR because they genuinely believe what they're saying and are real patriots?

What good is a country full of insincere automatons? I'm sure in North Korea lots of people pay lipservice to Kim Jung Il, even school kids taking a daily allegiance. Should we be like them?

What in our pledge even relates to brain washing? I'm not saying that the students have to say the pledge. However I'm saying that it should be optional. And I don't want them to say it unless if they have been taught what it means, and truly support it. But if schools don't even offer it then how are they going to teach it?

If a school doesn't want to, it shouldn't have to. Students who demand things like this can go and find another school. The school is run by the state, not the students.

Why should students have to go find another school? That is wrong to make students transfer and pay that kind of money, just because they are to stuborn to offer it for students. What is it hurting to offer it
