Yes I think I will agree on this. The problem with labeling things is that people can decide what
they want to be known as. Self harm is like a dare. I dare you, or rather I dare myself. It is more
a control issue. The garb is just another part of the label. |

I grew up in the 80's and NO ONE called themselves EMO.
We had punks and metal heads, preppies and jocks, nerds and geeks all kids of other things, but no
one sat around saying " I'm EMO..." |

I don't know what the difference is and I'm posting over here because everyone else has. I usually
don't post on things I do not really "get", but I don't think Emos are the only people who cut
themselves. It is actually common in people with certain mental illnesses and some drug abusers. I
cannot imagine wanting to cut myself, but I can't really say much aside from that because I suppose
there must be some sort of agony for the person who is cutting themselves. Still, I don't think
that drawing a line of distinction between what was and what is emo is a good thing. As StBalders
said, there will come a day that you look back and can't even believe you went through this phase.
We all do. When we get older and look back at pictures of ourselves, most of us find them to be
rather funny. OMG...when I see pictures of how I used to wear my hair and compare them to now, I
just about die laughing. My sister was more "out there" in the way she dressed and stuff. When she
would leave for dates with her boyfriend, my mom and I used to stand at the window and laugh at
them. Sounds mean, but really, she was hilarious. She would wear a mini skirt, some tight top and
boots in the middle of summer...not just low boots....nooooo...these boots were the ones that cover
more than half of one's leg. They were winter boots. Her boyfriend was unique too. His mother
would buy him all of these expensive shirts and he would cut them all up. He had the sleeves cut
off, slashes across the back and front and a shredded tee under the thing. It was just too funny.
They dated for a long time. I had to go everywhere with them for a few years. Finally, she was old
enough to go herself and my mom and I truly did enjoy ourselves at their expense. I still love a
picture of here with her hair teased totally out from her face. She is blonde and she looked just
like a dandilion...LMAO. |

I don't know what the 80's emos were like, but anything is better than modern emos. |

Both are childish and rather pathetic but harmless. You will look back on your teenage years and
laugh at how much of a p ratt you looked just as I did and everyone else. At the moment though you
think you are the only one who understands anything. You will learn. |

I don't think we should categorise people, and to say one is better just enforces stereotypes in my
eyes. I don't know what emos were like back in the 80s so my comment might be misinformed in part
but from what I know of today's emos you can't say they all cut and want to kill themselves. To me
its just a fashion and music thing, I don't see anything wrong with it. |

I don't really know what the 80's definition was but I'm sure it was better than the present
definition because if they hate them selves so much then why don't they just kill them selves and
stop making the world a terrible place |

I don't even know why you waist time categorizing yourself like that i thought you were a human not
a food item or a file |
