Embryonic stem cell research is a way to work on cures for hundreds of diseases that can only be
treated. This treatment can save millions, if not more, of present and future lives.
Embryonic stem cell research is a technology we should all take advantage of, and could be the start
to a whole new age of information, that could potentially be used to eliminate disease and genetic
defects, as well as many other significant problems today that would otherwise only be "treated" but
not cured.
Anyone who disagrees with this should have a long hard think to themselves. The huge amount of
people who could benefit from stem cell research is answer enough.. I find it disgusting that anyone
could hold back this research. Nicram has said it all.
There are so many amazing possibilities with embryonic stem cells. So many terrible diseases could
be eradicated but many people stubbornly believe that it is immoral to destroy the embryo when there
are in fact thousands of embryos destroyed every day at fertility clinics. Isn't it immoral that
people are allowed to suffer and eventually die when something can be done about it, when those stem
cells could be used in scientific research but waisted because of sentimental reasoning.
While i do think we need stem cell research i don't think it is within the authority or means of the
government to fund and carry out said research. For the same reason doctors are not government
employees neither should the people who carry out this research.
Why should the government fund it? What responsibility or obligation does the government have in
funding something like this? The role of government is to govern, not to fund or provide stuff.
I would vote for it if you can convince me that a human being is not destroyed in the process. At
this point, each embryo that is used for research is terminated--always.
An embryo is not a human being, merely a collection of a few cells. Is that good enough? It is far more likely that by not allowing it you are destroying the chances of many human beings to have life.
