Electoral College Is Undemocratic
Electoral College is undemocratic. In a democracy ,in the United States, where representatives are chosen by the people, Others cannot choose for us. In the electoral College, our votes don't count and the unnamed voters can change the votes any way they want to.

I think the electoral college was democracy at its finest... We got the guys we most needed in charge to take charge and they set up the electoral college for us... We can't depend on George Washington's name and legacy anymore, we have to make the changes ourselves... The electoral college lost its sense of democracy when our leaders became the founding fathers and our candidates became politicians... There's such a deep-rooted selfishness with the electoral process... They placate blue-collar states, and then more comfortably, pander to white collar states... Mutually agreeing those who dissent either don't exist or have no place with such dissension, and nothing changes... That john Adams series has been really interesting to watch i wonder what George bush thinks of it, if anything...

Of course it is. The country is a republic and it was set up to preserve the republic from the tyranny of a democracy. Yes a democracy can become a tyranny when it becomes a majority that threatens a minority. If you have a problem with the electoral college, then you should equally have a problem with the senate which is of a similar set up.

I don't think it's undemocratic as the electoral college is supposed to vote for the candidates favored by the electorate. I just think it's completely unnecessary in the modern age and as we've seen in recent elections, people who are losing the popular vote are winning the election because they're focusing their attention only on certain states. If 50.1% of the polls favor one candidate, they get all the votes in the state and that's certainly not in keeping with the "one person, one vote" standards we ought to have.

It was set up specifically to be undemocratic. The word then did not have the same connotation as it does now. Democratic meant a majority of the people. This was a concern to the framers, because they understood the tyrrany of the majority. Smaller states and less populated areas do have greater voting power by design. Again, the US senate is set up similarly.

The U.S. Isn't a democracy, it's a republic. We choose people to choose for us - thus our sovereignty is transferred.
