Eating Spicy Food Is Like Burning Your Mouth
"Spicy" is not a flavour, it is simply pain. Therefore, those who enjoy spicy food are masochists.

Amen to that. I am a bland gringo taste buds where food is concerned myself.
But picked jalapenos as a screen name for the idea not for the actuality of it gastronomically-speaking....

It's not that bad, putting fire in your mouth is worth, chilly is just natural, you have to face it

I do not agree. I am such a wimp at times, definitely not masochistic, but I love jalapeno spicy stuff.

Some food that is spicy has a flavor, spicy isn't the only one. Hot cheeto's for example.

1) First of all "spicy" is too general a term for your statement because there are plenty of "spicy" foods which aren't actually hot in any way. Curry is described as spicy but can be very mild. Italian restaurants may put out an herb infused olive oil for dipping your bread and it may be very spicy but not in a heat sense, more of an herb sense. Spice means seasoning, not heat. 2) Pepper in its various forms, which often is the source of the spicy you describe, does not actually raise temperatures or burn the mouth, it instead activates a nerve pathway which is used to tell the brain several different messages. The nerve pathway misinterprets it as heat because it isn't equipped to call it anything else. 3) The degree of heat is relative. I can handle something like chilli powder which might be spicy to you but I wouldn't dare eat a scotch bonnet pepper whole. Someone who might eat the scotch bonnet no problem might get blown away by a ghost pepper. 4) In terms of spice not being a flavor but instead pain, there are many variations and nuances to peppers which give different flavors. Besides, similar statements could be made about saltiness, that it's simply astringency and not flavor, even though there are many different types and flavors of salts. Or the same could be said about oil, that it's all simply fat and not flavor, yet olive oil and sunflower oil and fish oil all are distinctly different.

It's OK that you don't like "spicy" foods, but let the rest of us eat what we like.
